Reiki In The World

Last weekend I attended a Shinpiden Reiki workshop by Frans Stiene. One of the women I co-teach the Advanced Reiki Workshops in Davis with, Joy Snipes, also took the three-day workshop with me. On Saturday night after dinner, about seven of us ended up at the tables between the hotel bar and restaurant, sharing stories about energy work and getting to know each other.

Soon a baby from the restaurant started crying. The baby cried for a long time, until he was screaming. A woman from another table made a comment that the noise was starting to irritate her, and I had to admit, that child was quite loud.

Joy was sitting directly in front of me, with her back to the dining area where the baby was. After a few more minutes of crying Joy calmly said: “I am going to send that baby some Reiki” then lifted her hand, palm toward the crying.

In that instant, the crying stopped.

I was stunned. Everyone else in our group, including Joy, just kept on talking like nothing out of the ordinary had happened.

I couldn’t believe it. I said “Wait! Did you see that? When Joy put her hand up that baby did not make another sound.”

Everyone looked at me and nodded, and went back to their conversations like it was no big deal.

This incident was a huge teaching for me. It wasn’t even like Joy sent that baby Reiki, it was like she used the motion of her hand to make a connection with the child. A calm, loving connection. I had felt it.

I really get it now: One grounded, loving person can make a tremendous difference in this world.

As we left our tables, I looked for the baby as we passed by the restaurant. There he was… happy and content.

“Every moment of our lives we bless and get blessed by nature, people, the universe, animals etc. The only way to recognize this is to open our hearts, eyes and minds.”

  1. Dear Jeri! I love this story! I do exactly this almost daily in the schools I work in! I keep a certain joyful, safe and productive atmosphere filled with creativity for my kids. I know This living reiki technique well! It’s very handy on airplanes!!

  2. I love this! These kinds of amazing experiences happen so often that it begins to feel natural. And yet look at the results, not just for the baby, but for everyone in the room! Thank you for sharing this!
