Healing: Befriending All Our Emotions

I would like to share a beautifully written description of my client’s healing session. It is a wonderful account of how surrendering to anxiety and befriending our emotions is what essentially heals us.

“I mostly feel the energy shifts as gentle changes in the vibration in my body (I love to envision the atom models we used in chemistry class just shifting a little in their movement…).  Generally, it doesn’t get more intense until you get towards my upper body.  I think the moment you felt the biggest energy shift (was it on my left you said?) was actually when I felt the most relaxed, like I could almost fall asleep.  It feels almost as restful in those moments as if I had taken a long nap.  And there was still this gentle white light I could feel but not see.  I think I’ve said it before–but whenever you place your hands over my sternum, sort of the area where all of my anxiety and deep emotion live, it is this incredible feeling of being witnessed and not having to hold it all myself.  It’s occasionally a little terrifying, since that space seems to open more during sessions (as I imagine it should) and so much floats in and out, but it’s always a calming sense to be seen too.

One interesting thing that happened too that I wanted to tell you and thought I could say better in writing–I think when you switched to the right arm, I had this moment where I realized my breathing had become like I was about to cry. Almost immediately after that, I had the tightening sensation of anxiety in my chest.  I’ve never had anxiety rise during a session before.  I initially wanted to just push it away and tell it that it had no place there, and then I realized that wasn’t really the point.  So with some degree of struggle, I was able to sort of look at it and say something along the lines of  “hi, anxiety.  You’re a part of me, so it’s ok that you’re here…” and then I think I told it something along the lines of  “let’s go see a sunrise together sometime” (where that came from I have no idea, but I think I was trying to befriend it?)–and then my mind cleared completely and the amount of energy in my body changed and became so much higher and stayed that way until we finished.”

  1. What a perceptive account of a session. Amazing awareness! I have worked with emotions for many now doing my own personal work and assisting hundreds of others. I incorrectly thought that we simply release the emotions(actually created in our bodies in very particular organs and glands)once we can identify them and “own” them. What I now understand is that these frequencies do not just disappear. Energy can never b destroyed…as per Einstein. What actually happens is that the negatively charged frequencies are transmuted back to benign elements that we utilize again in our bodies. What a different view on it. It’s like welcoming your child back home

  2. Wonderful description of the opening that can happen in a session when we just accept whatever arises. What your client did is just what the wise Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hanh recommends: when you feel anger, anxiety or fear, you acknowledge it, welcome it as part of you, tell it you want to help, and then, with some slow breathing & mindfulness, the usual result is that the negative emotion is released, to be replaced by a sense of calm.
