I’m excited to announce that on May 12th and 13th I will be co-facilitating a TaKeTiNa and Clarity Breathwork with Mary Gaetjens, Natalie Word, and James Word.
This will be a weekend that will take all of us to higher states of consciousness and help us energetically integrate that consciousness into our daily lives. This is a wonderful opportunity to be in community with people who are focused on growth, balance and alignment in these evolutionary times. This weekend will create healing on many levels.
James Word is the first TaKeTiNa teacher in the U.S. to be trained at a senior level. Mary Gaetjens is an experienced and gifted Clarity Breathwork Practitioner and Natalie Word is currently training in TaKeTiNa and will be playing the surdo (a large bass drum) during the TaKeTiNa journeys.
Natalie and James have been coming regularly to the Breathwork Circles Mary and I have been holding each month. Last summer we organized a TaKeTiNa journey right before a breathing session and we were blown away at what a powerful experience it was. That’s when we came up with the idea of a longer workshop.
Clarity Breathwork is a practice of circular, connected breathing that raises the vibration of the body and energy field, thus releasing stress, physical tension, trauma and mental blocks. Breathing is a safe and effective method of creating deep healing in your life.
TaKeTiNa was founded by Reinhard Flatischler in 1970 and is group process for discovering your natural rhythm. TaKeTiNa has many emotional and physical benefits, including integrating both side of the brain. For more on TaKeTiNa check out this short video:
The Workshop will be held in Berkeley, close to Solano Avenue. Each day we plan to do two Clarity Breathwork Sessions and two TaKeTiNa Journeys. No previous experience required. Call 510-601-9632 for more information and directions.

In my first post about music I wrote about how I made edited playlists for my healing sessions. Planet Yoga by Karuna Music/Triloka Records is one of those music recommendations in which I have taken out one song from a CD and created an amazing playlist. I have been using this music in my healing practice for years.
Planet Yoga is a 2 CD set. The second CD is the one I use for healing sessions and has 4 songs: Home by Drala, Meditation of the Night and Zenith by Benjy Wertheimer, and the beautiful song I edited out, Morning Meditation by Ali Akbar Khan. I repeated the first three songs for a playlist about 70 minutes long.

The first CD is a collection of chants that I have played endlessly for everything except healing work. I’m not an expert on chanting, but I think this collection is absolutely brilliant. The YouTube link above features one of these chants by Wah! called Jai Ma. It also includes Krishna Das, Deva Premal, David Stringer, Jai Uttal, Rasa, Bhagavan Das, and Diana Rogers.
The CD “Deeksha” by Angelica was a generous and thoughtful gift from one of my clients. This music is sublimely beautiful and perfect for healing work.
Before writing this post I thought Angelika was a group and when you hear the delicate harmonies in the music you will know why. I discovered Angelika is a woman who is an amazing musician, spiritual seeker, and living foods, enthusiast. She teaches workshops on nutrition and raw foods, and writes, records and performs her own music. She grew up in Germany and now lives off the grid in the Sierras.
Her spiritual path is one of devotion and acceptance of all religions.

The great thing about having a blog is sharing the ideas and practices that have made such a difference in my life. This guided meditation is one of those gifts.
I have listened to this CD hundreds of times. I still hear Ashanna say the perfect affirmation at the perfect time for the perfect breathe and, even though I know better, it feels like I never heard her say it before that moment. It’s an oracle breath session; I receive guidance and insights, as well as feel clear, centered and more focused afterwards.
This CD has also guided me to heal my physical body. I was hit by an SUV in a cross walk several years back. For months after I would feel my back “give out” in the middle of the day. To rebalance and energize my back, I’d put on this CD and breath for 15 minutes. I start with Track 4 for these shorter jumpstart sessions. Just 15 minutes of breathing helped me relax my muscles and rebalance my spine so that my body felt strong. Then I could work comfortably until the end of the day. It was quite remarkable.
Healing my own back injury made me realize that breathwork is a powerful modality for healing back and spine issues.

I also have an article on the Clarity Breathwork website about how Clarity Breathwork and the CD “Healing Yourself with Breath” changed my life and healed my migraines.
The music I play in my healing sessions has a very specific purpose. It has to hold a fairly consistent vibration, yet keep the energy flowing in the healing space. When I am in and out of various energetic states I find music very beneficial in keeping the room grounded. Music is also soothing and relaxing for the client.
I want to start out by highly recommending the CD “Quiet Heart” by Lisa Lynne. The tone and quality of this CD is exquisite; it was perfectly produced. Check out her website here. Below is a song called “Walk With Me.”

.“Spiritual Healing” by Deuter
“Spiritual Healing” is a must-have CD for healers. If you are looking for some new music you might as well check out everything Deuter has done.
“Passion Flute” by Stephen DeRuby
Another CD I have used frequently over the years is from a flute maker named Stephen DeRuby. I have two of his flutes. This music has a presence that fills and grounds the room so much I use it for many of my clients healing from cancer. This music creates a very supportive space. I also love “Sacred Spaces” and “Mystic Flute”.

Music is a very important element in my Healing Touch Practice. The music I choose sets the energy of the session. It also can help to clear the energy of the previous client and ground the space for the next healing.
I have clients who want the same music every session, it’s part of their healing ritual and as soon as they hear the first few notes they instantly relax. This works well for clients who are going through stressful medical procedures because they can play their healing music before or during the intervention and the music helps reduce their anxiety.
There are weeks when I feel the need to change the music from one client to the next. Then there are times when I seem to get in a groove and I may play the same music throughout the workday. Rainy days are sometimes like that. When I find a great new CD, I might play it straight for a few days if appropriate. Finding fresh new music greatly invigorates my practice and can bring new discoveries to the healings.
I also have sessions when I just can’t decide on what to play until the client walks through the door.
When I started my healing practice I had a CD player with a “repeat” button that played one CD at a time. Now I have a Boise sound system with an iPod and I can create my own playlists. This has proven to be a major technical advantage because I had so many great CDs with just one selection that was too fast or jarring for healing work.
I don’t make playlists for healing sessions from a wide variety of musicians. I find that each artist tends to create each CD with a specific energetic intention and I like to keep that energy level throughout the session. Generally what I do is take out that one upbeat song that is not suitable for healing work and repeat one of the other songs to make the playlist long enough for a full session.
The five recommendations below are for healers who use CD players in their studios, so if you decide to buy the CD you will not have to worry about editing. I have been playing all these CDs on and off for years. I hope they enrich your healing practice and life as much as they have mine.
My first recommendation is R. Carlos Nakai’s “Canyon Trilogy” recorded in 1989. It is a masterpiece. The tone of this piece is just right, you can feel it in your body. This is the music I almost always play for new clients because it holds such a high spiritual frequency and is grounding at the same time. Another good thing about this CD is that most people do not perceive it as “new age”. I work with many people who are quite sick and who are coming to me for physical relief. Many of these clients have never had a healing before. Music that is too “new age” can put them off and even irritate them. Canyon Trilogy is a crowd pleaser on every level.
“Yearning” by Lisa Moskow and Robert Rich
“Yearning” by Lisa Moskow and Robert Rich is from 1995. I paid $18.00 for it in a bookstore sixteen years ago and I remember thinking how expensive that seemed at the time. That purchase was well worth the investment: I have played this CD a million times. By the time I started putting all my session music on my iPod, I had to buy it again because the disc had started skipping. “Yearning” is a slow Indian raga, thick with warm overtones that feel incredibly nurturing and very deep. This is music for intense, focused healing work. There are sessions where this music would not be appropriate because it is so intense. I also meditate with it frequently. Check out “Nada” below.
A very uplifting choice in music is “Reiki – Hands of Light” by Deuter. It is a beautiful piece of music, powerful yet much lighter than “Yearnings.” This music is clear, confident and slightly energizing, yet never interferes with the deepest healing states. “Hands of Light” is very popular with clients and I know many other Healing Touch Practitioners who love it. Released in 1998.
Peter Kater’s “Essence” (1997) and “Compassion” (1998) have been staples in my music repertoire for years. These two CDs each provide a 75-minute landscape of gentle musical movement that supports and smoothly sustains a deep healing space. I can’t really recommend one over the other. For years I played “Essence” more, but now I am gravitating to “Compassion.”
“Essence” starts with six and a half minutes of a soft beautiful vocal melody before the piano comes in. Many times I start the CD before the client gets on the table so the actual healing begins with the piano. It’s a wonderful way to begin a healing. “Essence” was recorded with synthesizers and acoustic accompaniment: David Darling on cello, Cecil Hooker on violin, Rhonda Larson on flute, Peter Kater on piano and Chris White singing vocals with no words.
“Compassion” has several minutes of gongs and bowls at the beginning before the piano arrives. The gongs and bowls are then accompanied by Peter Kater on piano, David Darling is on cello, Mark Miller on sax and flutes and Chris White is singing wordless vocals. I find this music strong and grounding.
I have been playing these five CDs on and off for years. I hope they enrich your healing practice and life as much as they have enriched mine.
