Healing: Living, Dying and Near-Death

Last year one of my clients made her transition from this world. I received this text from one of her many friends the night before I was scheduled to see her:

“I’m sorry to text you in the middle of the night, but I wanted to let you know _______ passed away tonight. Thank you for working with her. The results of your healings were one of the few things we all saw that gave her peace and relief in the last month.”

At the start of most of our sessions, my client would be in quite a bit of pain (about a seven on a scale of one to ten). After the healing, she would be completely ‘pain-free’ (her words), sitting upright and breathing much easier.

She also said she felt much more peaceful and she looked so much brighter after the sessions. She talked about what was on her mind, her current process of healing, her wonderful friends, and her dealings with the medical culture. I didn’t say much, but I held a grounded space for her to express what needed to be said.

I was not with her in the last week, but when I saw her in the months before, she talked a lot about how she did not want to die.  Not because she was afraid of death, but because she loved life so much. She spoke of her garden, art that inspired her, and places she wanted to visit.  It was such a gift to get to know her.  Her love of life was inspiring.

It took me a while to process my own thoughts about death, healing, and this great mystery of life after this incredible woman made her transition. I have been writing and rewriting this post for a long time.

She left a space in my consciousness that I needed to explore. I ended up watching a lot of near-death YouTube videos that basically told the same story over and over. This one was my favorite:

I am so grateful. Every session in my healing practice is such a gift.

Healing: The More I Receive, The More I Can Give

I had to develop my self-care receiver skills to become an effective and grounded energetic practitioner.

I am continually surprised at how much learning to receive teaches me about giving.

Having sessions with other healers is one of the most beautiful ways I keep my heart open and stay in energetic alignment. Self-Reiki and doing Breathwork on my own are profoundly supportive (even life-saving), yet having another human hold space for me is a whole other level of receiving and releasing.

Receiving was only an innate potential that took me a long time to cultivate into a skill. Opening to receive connects me with higher states of consciousness, where I find greater creativity, healing, and guidance.

Investing time, money, and energy into my personal Breathwork and Healing Touch sessions is the best investment I make for myself and my clients.

Healing Sessions For Scanxiety

“I’ve been going through some intense scanxiety – cold fear of a looming scan…” 

One of my clients had a very important scan coming up, and she wrote a deeply moving email describing her experience of scanxiety.

What an amazing word.  The perfect description of what I have always thought of as one of the most difficult phases of healing from cancer: waiting for the next scan.

“I recognize some of the fear as the residue of past traumas – every scan I’ve had before this has revealed our worst fears… Some fear is rooted in love of self and life – a reminder of how much I want to protect my life, how much I want to live.”

Healing Touch and Reiki treatments have helped my clients stay sane and a little more grounded until the results come back. My clients are my heroes, and I am honored to be a part of their healing journey.

I am extremely happy to report that this client’s scan came back with very, very good news.

Clarity Breathwork Releases Trauma

Healing: The Experience of New Energies

It still amazes me how every healing session is so different.

Just this week, I felt a completely new energy, frequency, or level of consciousness that had never shown up before.  It felt dark (in a deep way, not a shadowy way), refined, detoxing, and very still.

 

Profoundly still.

The client I was working with often releases energy in her body with strong muscle spasms that throw her arms off the side of the massage table. These releases realign her shoulder/rotator cuff, but that day she had barely perceptible micro-movements in her neck and upper body.

She was so relaxed afterward. The next day I asked her to write more about what she experienced in the session:

“This session was unlike any before. I quickly dropped into a deeply peaceful expansiveness. I had little to no sense of my physical body or Jeri’s physical presence – just a crystalline peacefulness. I felt a much-needed sense of stillness and calm. Amazing session!! “

A Healing Image

From the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot Deck

This is the tarot card that most clearly depicts what I experience in the healing state. Some people might think this is odd, that maybe the Star, or Sun card would be more appropriate.

One of the traditional meanings of Temperance is moderation, and over the years I have read several writers who say Temperance is not their favorite card. I get that. I mean, who wants to moderate anything? Especially after this last year of everything being moderated.

Yet, beyond moderation is balance and harmony. I have written before how I describe the healing state as that place of perfect equilibrium, of the place of ‘suspended enoughness.’ Where the flow of the water between the cups becomes still, and that stillness contains all movement.

According to Rachel Pollack in her book The New Tarot Handbook (Rachel Pollack is a genius, by the way,  and I have a signed copy of this book):

” Notice that what the angel is doing is impossible, since water will not pour at an angle. One meaning of this card is to calmly do something you used to think was beyond your capabilities. The angel appears so peaceful, focused, even unemotional, yet the wings beat so powerfully the picture cannot contain them.” 

Imagery is powerful. Art often opens me up to the next level of what is possible.

The Healing Spark Of Connection

At this point, I have been doing distance healings for almost a full year.

Lately, I am noticing how powerful the initial connection with my client’s energy field is—that moment when I first click into my client energetically.

Sometimes I can ‘see’ or perceive a flash, or spark, as I feel our energies connect. I really notice it when my eyes are closed. It also doesn’t feel like it is just my energy and my client’s energy – it is a tangible little epicenter. It feels like the joining of limitless energies in that instant of connection.

There was one session in which this spark was all that my client needed. I knew the session was complete in the first 3 seconds of the healing. I confess that I continued the healing; I set an intention to integrate the shift with a chakra connection to lengthen the treatment, but I knew what my client had already received what she truly needed.

When I called her afterward, she was so happy and felt so much better. I asked her as many questions as I could (just to make sure), and she just kept telling me how much more positive she felt and she had so much more energy. She loved it.

The power of connection is so tangible now. All our connections are so profoundly healing. I can’t wait to be able to give and receive hugs again. 🙂

Reiki Master John Harvey Gray

I love watching healing videos. I find it so relaxing. I feel a transmission of energy as I watch other energy practitioners, especially those that have spent decades deepening their practice.

Everyone finds their way of working with energy. Some people feel the energy and some people hear, or see the energy. Some healers energetically work with specific areas of the body and others hold a healing space of unity consciousness that allows their client self-heal.

There are so many ways to bring peace to ourselves and others.
