Transmuting Energy and Healing Anxiety

I would like to share a comment made by my friend and Healing Touch Practitioner Vivian Drewis about last week’s post:  Healing: Befriending All Our Emotions.

“What a perceptive account of a session. Amazing awareness! I have worked with emotions for many years now doing my own personal work and assisting hundreds of others. I incorrectly thought that we simply release the emotions (actually created in our bodies in very particular organs and glands) once we can identify them and “own” them. What I now understand is that these frequencies do not just disappear. Energy can never be destroyed…as per Einstein. What actually happens is that the negatively charged frequencies are transmuted back to benign elements that we utilize again in our bodies. What a different view on it. It’s like welcoming your child back home.”

I have been thinking about Vivian’s comment all week. This quote describes exactly what I “feel” kinesthetically happening in my client’s energy field during my healing sessions. After they relax and stop resisting emotions such as anxiety and fear, there is almost always the sensation of more life-force energy, or a higher frequency of energy, in their biofield. I thought this was because the contracted, denser energy had released.  Maybe this higher vibrational energy is their emotions being  “transmuted back into benign elements.”

I find this incredibly exciting. It may not change my healing sessions in any way, but it just makes sense. I love it when things make sense. I also like the idea that when I can finally relax and create space around my emotions, it increases my life-force energy.

Thank you, Vivian!

Healing: Befriending All Our Emotions

I would like to share a beautifully written description of my client’s healing session. It is a wonderful account of how surrendering to anxiety and befriending our emotions is what essentially heals us.

“I mostly feel the energy shifts as gentle changes in the vibration in my body (I love to envision the atom models we used in chemistry class just shifting a little in their movement…).  Generally, it doesn’t get more intense until you get towards my upper body.  I think the moment you felt the biggest energy shift (was it on my left you said?) was actually when I felt the most relaxed, like I could almost fall asleep.  It feels almost as restful in those moments as if I had taken a long nap.  And there was still this gentle white light I could feel but not see.  I think I’ve said it before–but whenever you place your hands over my sternum, sort of the area where all of my anxiety and deep emotion live, it is this incredible feeling of being witnessed and not having to hold it all myself.  It’s occasionally a little terrifying, since that space seems to open more during sessions (as I imagine it should) and so much floats in and out, but it’s always a calming sense to be seen too.

One interesting thing that happened too that I wanted to tell you and thought I could say better in writing–I think when you switched to the right arm, I had this moment where I realized my breathing had become like I was about to cry. Almost immediately after that, I had the tightening sensation of anxiety in my chest.  I’ve never had anxiety rise during a session before.  I initially wanted to just push it away and tell it that it had no place there, and then I realized that wasn’t really the point.  So with some degree of struggle, I was able to sort of look at it and say something along the lines of  “hi, anxiety.  You’re a part of me, so it’s ok that you’re here…” and then I think I told it something along the lines of  “let’s go see a sunrise together sometime” (where that came from I have no idea, but I think I was trying to befriend it?)–and then my mind cleared completely and the amount of energy in my body changed and became so much higher and stayed that way until we finished.”

Healing, Self-Tuning and the Ocarina, Part One

Sometimes in a healing session, I become aware of my client’s energy field as a collection of frequencies that are subtly harmonizing. Every time I change my hand position, I sense a different tone. It’s like I am feeling sound. My clients are tuning themselves in the sacred space.

Outside of my healing room, I have become fascinated with the medicinal effects of sound on my energy field and the ocarina. I’ve been playing the ocarina as a meditation, exploring how specific tones affect me.

After sitting and silently meditating, I often just play one long, slow note on an ocarina that sounds good to me. I then relax into the stillness afterward. I notice if I feel anything different in my physical body, if I feel differently emotionally, or if the space around me has shifted. It has been an incredible practice.

Because the ocarina is a wind instrument, my breath becomes a connection between the inside of my body and the outside. Playing the ocarina has helped me become more sensitive to energy in my healing practice. It also feels so good. It’s so soothing and grounding.

My obsession with the ocarina started at the end of 2014. Before that, I had never even heard of an ocarina. I started watching every ocarina YouTube video, researching all the ocarina maker’s websites and buying them online. I returned quite a few. I can’t tell you how many times I wished there was an ocarina store in the Bay area.

This ocarina, the Seedpod Ocarina Tenor G was the first ocarina I found that made my body resonate with the first breath. It is so easy to play. If you are not a musician and are interested in meditating with a wind instrument, this is the ocarina I recommend. Of course, you can also use a native American flute. The Seedpod Tenor G cost under $50.00. You can get it through Songbird Ocarina in Los Angeles, a fantastic company.

The next ocarina I fell in love with was also from Songbird Ocarina: The Seedpod Ocarina Bass C. Of all the ocarinas I have, this is the one I play the most often. For me, bass tones create even more healing vibration in my body.

I am a full-time healer, and I am in an altered or healing state about fifteen to twenty hours a week. The only way I can maintain my healing practice at this rate is to stay grounded. My daily meditation and ocarina playing have been the most efficient way for me to do this.

The best thing about self-tuning with the ocarina is that it feels amazing. Try it.

Unwinding and Physical Release During a Healing Session

Sometimes when people begin to relax on my healing table, they start to release blocked energy in their body with twitching, rhythmic muscle spasms, shaking and kicking. These movements are their body’s innate process of rebalancing and are very positive and healing.

In the last few months, I have had several new clients who were embarrassed by these physical reactions. These involuntary movements can feel so disconcerting that many people with this tendency stay away from yoga classes, meditation retreats, healing sessions and other places in which they may relax and start to spasm in public.

People who can release in this way have a gift! In cranial-sacral therapy, this is called unwinding, and there are many healing modalities that focus on this type of release. In my experience as a Reiki and Healing Touch Practitioner, a series of healings will usually dissipate the energy in the physical body and the spasms will significantly reduce, if not completely fall away, as the biofield comes into alignment. Every person is different, of course, and the rate of healing depends on the level of imbalance and trauma you have to heal. Check out this video “How the Body Releases Trauma and Restores Goodness” by Peter Levine. The body can let go of deep trauma through movement.

Once a person is comfortable with unwinding, it can be done at home, kind of like a meditation. I had a client who often readjusted her hip/leg issue during her healing sessions with me and can now unwind and adjust herself on her own. She unwinds in bed before going to sleep at night and feels grounded and peaceful afterward. Another client who was once so freaked out by her body’s tendency to spasm she couldn’t relax in public at all, now unwinds at home and find it releases her anxiety. Unwinding is emotionally healing.

Below is a short YouTube video of a woman having a gentle unwinding:

Here is another video of unwinding in a classroom situation with Joshua Shelan. I am not familiar with his healing work, but this is a good video of a person involuntarily releasing through body movement.

Unwinding is a vast topic, and I have quite a few stories about how it has shown up in my healing practice. The important thing I want to emphasize in this short post is that the ability to release in this way is extraordinarily healing. Some people have it more than others.

If you are someone who has this gift of unwinding, but feels self-conscious about it, I invite you to get a healing, breathwork or cranial-sacral session. Learn to use your amazing healing ability.

Energetic Techniques For Healthy Partnerships Workshop February 10th

We can create deeper trust and intimacy in relationships when we become aware of our personal energetic boundaries.

Over the last 20 years in my business as a healer, I have collected, developed and keep returning to, a few simple techniques that keep me grounded and centered in my healing practice. I am now going to share these meditations and techniques in a two-hour workshop on February 10th from 2pm to 4pm.

If you find that you are often feeling frustrated, stuck, drained, hopeless, or even angry, this workshop may be just the thing for you. The more aware you are of your own energy, the easier it is to be in relationships with partners, clients, coworkers, patients, loved ones and even those you don’t quite love yet.

My intention is that everyone who comes to this workshop will actually experience energy shifts and balance in their own physical body. Energy work is practical. Energy work is incredibly helpful in our everyday life. In fact, it is almost essential to be energetically centered in the extreme craziness of these times.

We will meet at Back To Life 403 49th Street Oakland, CA 94609. This will be a small and intimate gathering, so you can ask questions and receive plenty of feedback. There will also be seven days of follow-up emails based on the interests of the participants. Please RSVP here.

I would like to thank Alexis Daniel, Marketing Manager for Back To LIfe, for her insights in developing this workshop.

Healing: Our Inner World Changes Our Outer World

A few weeks ago I was talking with a client before her Clarity Breathwork session. I was checking in to see if she had noticed any changes in her life after her last breathe. The first thing she said was “Music sounded so amazing for three days after that last session.”

Breathwork, Reiki and Healing Touch treatments align and organize our energy fields. When we are centered and grounded, we experience our world differently. Our perception of music, pitch, and acoustics can become more sensitive when we are in balance.

I realized this many years ago in my healing practice.

Before every healing or breathwork session, I organize the room and set the energy specifically for each client – as if preparing for a ceremony.

I select the sheets, pillows, water glass, and sage that each client prefers. The temperature of the room is important; Some people like a warmer healing space, others like a cooler room. Music is always a large part of this process and is usually playing when the client walks in.

I cannot tell you how many times I have started a healing session, and as soon as I ground into the session I would suddenly become aware that the music was WAY TOO LOUD.

It was startling. How could I have set the music level at such a high volume? I had been so careful. This happened over and over. I am much more sensitive to sound when in the healing state. Clients often have the same experience.

I have always found this fascinating. Our perception of the world shifts as we come into balance. Our inner world changes how we hear our outer world. You can hear it.

Reiki Workshop January 13th and 14th, 2018 in Emeryville, California

We are living in interesting times. Staying centered and grounded is practically a political act.

Set your intention now to stay balanced in 2018 by learning how to give yourself Reiki treatments.

On January 13th and 14th, I will be offering a Reiki workshop in the beautiful Besler building in Emeryville, California. This workshop is the foundation for energetic self-care and personal development. You will learn the fundamentals of energy work for treating friends and family, and there will be plenty of time to practice healing on each other. We will practice many of the same Japanese techniques that were taught by Mikao Usui, and there will be a focus on deepening your meditation practice. Four Reiki I attunements, a manual, certificate and three weeks of follow-up emails will be given.

Over the last twenty years, I have taught many clients with life-threatening health opportunities how to give themselves Reiki treatments. I have witnessed the incredible energetic access this gave them to heal and nurture themselves. These clients have inspired me to teach this workshop.

Give yourself a gift of healing that will last a lifetime.

Beautiful Healing Music On YouTube

There are YouTube music videos that are excellent for healing, meditation or creating sacred space.

Check out music channels such as Meditative Mind (great chanting videos) and Best Relaxing Music. You can find the exact music that resonates with your mood for the day. Sometimes there are ads at the beginning, so listen to them before using them in your sessions. Enjoy!
