Healing: Grounding and Feeling Safe, Part Three

DSC_4057 Grounding helps the body feel safe.

Feeling safe is very healing.

Feeling safe and grounded in your body, even for a few minutes, is so beneficial after an accident, surgery or other traumatic event. I have energetically supported many clients through divorces, chemotherapy, and the loss of a family member by holding an energetic space where they can feel safe. Many times that feeling of being safe was the pivotal factor they needed to relax and heal themselves.

During a series of healing sessions with a client, I sometimes ask, “Do you feel safe in your body?” Physically safe?  Emotionally safe? Financially safe? I have found just becoming conscious of where we do not feel safe, in our bodies and in our lives, has opened many pathways to clearing unconscious fear.

What makes you feel safe and grounded?

  • A healing session?
  • A walk in nature?
  • Being around family?
  • Not being around family?
  • Talking to a friend?
  • Working?
  • Having a certain amount of money in the bank?
  • Giving yourself Reiki?

Life on this planet is a wild ride. Being grounded can be immensely helpful in not letting fear and anxiety stop us from living the life we want to live.

Healing: Grounding, Part One

When I started writing about grounding, I realized there was a lot of information to cover. Being grounded is so essential to our biofield, our health, and our lives. I’m a little surprised I have not written about grounding before now.

My definition of being grounded is the feeling of being connected to the earth, present in your body and in the moment. Being grounded helps us feel safe in our bodies, peaceful, centered, strong and alive.

Here are a few signs that you may not be grounded:

  • You misplaced your keys several times this week.
  • You have been bumping into things.
  • You feel fatigued, spacey and find it hard to stay organized.

In my energetic practice, many imbalances I discover in my clients energy field quickly resolve once they become grounded. I have found issues like headaches, anxiety, and jet lag fall away just by grounding.

How can you become grounded? Continue reading “Healing: Grounding, Part One”

After the Retreat: How To Keep The Peace

IMG_0141

A few weeks ago I wrote about a retreat I went to in Idyllwild, California. There were two group phone calls afterward and someone asked: “How do I keep this peace, this connection, and joy I felt during the retreat in my daily life?”

“You don’t ever have to leave it! Make it your priority to touch this place through your practices each day. Be devoted. It will stabilize through your devotion. “

Supriya Neika Whittemore, Sound and Silence Retreat Facilitator

I realize now that devotion is a deeper place of commitment to peace than I have experienced before, and this commitment to peace connects me to everything – my work, my relationships, my life. So simple.

What a beautiful perspective.

Thank you, Supriya.

Self-Mind Clearing: The Video

Penny Burdick, MD, HTCP is a board-certified holistic family physician. She retired from an active family practice of 31 years at the end of 2011.

Dr. Burdick created a modification of a Healing Touch technique called Mind Clearing that you can easily do on yourself. Self-Mind Clearing is a set of hand positions that balances the energy flow within the brain and relaxes the mind. Her Self-Mind Clearing technique has been approved by the Healing Touch program and was published in the March-April 2015 edition of Energy Magazine.

Healing: Aligning With Your Highest Intentions

IMG_0893I often schedule a healing for myself when I feel sluggish or ungrounded. Most of my clients also come for a session when they feel out of balance or stressed.

A few months ago I had a client who came for a healing so that she could energetically align with her highest intentions. This involved taking her small business to a new level.

Before the healing, she explained exactly what she wanted to manifest. She had researched her initial goals as much as she could. She had reorganized her office, her schedule, and even her computer to handle the expected volume increase.

She had also spent months deeply reflecting on the personal issues that had once held her back. Her insights were remarkable. She was so clear and grounded, and so present.

For her, the healing was a culmination of all the internal work she had done. She saw her business as an external manifestation of that work. She was now ready to align with her highest intentions and move forward in her life.

I could feel the energy in the room moving before she even got on the table. The session was so powerful. The energy was swirling, rolling, and expanding throughout the session. The vibration was very high; my focus as a healer was to keep the space grounded for her.

It was an eye-opening session for me. I was reminded that healing is not just about fixing what is wrong or out of balance. The healing space, sacred space, is also a place from which to create and manifest.

It is important to note here that the most transformative Reiki and Healing Touch sessions are often very subtle. So subtle that the effects of many healings are not even realized until days after the session.

Healing as Ceremony

IMG_7965Sacred Space is healing.

I recently had a session with a woman on the second anniversary of her Mother’s death.

Two years ago she had a session with me a few days right after her Mother’s transition, and also on the first anniversary of her passing.

We lit some candles and chose the perfect music. The session was so beautiful. In that sacred space, that oneness, we both felt a connection to everything that ever was and ever will be.

She told me the sessions provided a place where she could fully “recognize all the feelings that were coming up” and “acknowledge the many layers of sadness and release” she was processing.

She said she felt so much comfort from the healing.

Healing Core Beliefs

"Poster" c. Jeri Lawson 2013 All Rights ReservedA core belief is a decision that you have made about yourself, or your life, on a subconscious level that becomes dominant and repetitive.

We are often acting from these decisions, these beliefs, without even realizing it. Just becoming conscious of a core belief can release you from limiting habitual patterns and make a HUGE difference in the choices you make in your life.

A core belief may be:

“I Am Not Good Enough”

“I Am Unlovable”

“Relationships Are Not Safe.”

After a Breathwork session, one client told me she realized that she believed “If I Don’t Succeed, I Will Die.” It was then clear to her why she had so much fear in her work environment and why it was so difficult for her to create a more fulfilling career.

Even though many clients have uncovered core beliefs in their Healing Touch and Reiki sessions, I have found Clarity Breathwork to be the most potent and effective modality for bringing light to any unconscious beliefs that are blocking your vital energy.

The first core belief I uncovered in my initial series of Clarity Breath sessions was “Life is Hard.” When this came up during my breathe with Clarity Breathworker Maggie Ostara, she asked me to repeat the affirmation “Life is not hard.”

I could not even say those words out loud. Every fiber in my body knew life was hard, even though before that moment I had not been aware of it.

Maggie saw how embedded this belief was in my psyche, so she asked me, “Are you willing to believe life is not hard?”

I was willing.

I realized I knew many people who operated very successfully in the world did not think life was hard. So for weeks after that breathe, every time I felt myself feeling that life was hard, I thought to myself “I am willing to believe that life is not hard.”

It worked.

I now live my life from a place that is not hard and that was over 12 years ago. I still work quite a bit, and there are challenging moments, but life now feels like it just flows. This was a huge shift from how I used to live. It was a great healing.

I recently held space for a woman who discovered and released a core belief that healed her body of headaches. Here is part of what she wrote me afterward:

“In my last breath session with Jeri, she helped me get to a new layer of a core limiting belief before the session even began. During the breath session, I saw the events in my life that had set & re-triggered core limiting beliefs. I watched them as if I was a purely compassionate being watching a movie. I had the distance to realize that within the pattern were things I hadn’t noticed before that were causing me physical illness. I then worked to balance my body and align my chakras. Jeri helped guide that process by releasing tension in my shoulders and neck. Energy flowed through my body in a way it hasn’t in years.

I released the personal pain surrounding the pattern (forgave) and was able to see the pain from a general, human perspective.

The day after the session and since I’ve felt more energized, my mind is calmer, I’m sleeping better, my personal interactions are richer and even difficult communication is not strained. The headaches I’ve been having on and off for years are definitely more “off”, in fact, I’ve only had one show-stopping headache since the breathe and it only lasted for 20 minutes! Generally speaking, I’ve had show-stopping headaches that lasted weeks.”

The Falling Away

“Come experience the falling away of that which holds you captive, in a safe space where profound healing can occur.”

-Jeanie Ballard, HTCP, CBD, CLC, RMT

When I first saw this quote on Jeanie’s website, everything just stopped.

I just sat for a few minutes and realized this quote says it all. This is what healing is; the falling away.

Thanks, Jeanie.

Seeing and Feeling Energy at the University of California, Berkeley

Energy is a tangible. You can see it, feel it, and use it daily to bring more flow, balance and creativity into your life.

This is what I wanted 20 students to experience when I spoke to a class called Art and Meditation at UC Berkeley last week.

I have been a guest speaker in this class for the last ten years, and it just gets more interesting every year. Speaking as an Energetic Practitioner/Healer, I lead two meditations, show the students how to see energy, how to feel energy, and most importantly, how to have fun doing it.

Fun is the key to becoming more aware of energy, especially in an academic environment. If you try too hard, it’s almost impossible to see an aura.

Take my word for this, I spent years trying too hard. I find it quite amazing that I can now show 20 people in a few minutes how to do something that took me years to figure out.

Maybe being a slow learner makes you a better teacher.

As I have written before in my blog, learning to see energy and auras did not make me a better healer. Seeing and feeling energy fields does help make energy more REAL to someone who is first being introduced to the concept. You can talk about energy all you want, but when you see or feel it, it’s a whole new paradigm.

The class is in Kroeber Hall. In a room without windows that has the perfect lighting for seeing energy fields. If I was giving this talk somewhere else, I am not sure I would even address seeing auras.

Every year, almost every student in the class sees the first layer of the aura, the layer that often looks like a light white-blue glow around the body. Many students say they have already seen this light around people, they just didn’t realize it was part of our biofield.

Feeling the energy is easier than seeing it. I have noticed most people are more kinesthetic, rather than visual perceivers, when it comes to experiencing energy. When everyone in the class partners up and begins to “feel” their partner’s aura, it’s an exciting moment.

Art and Meditation is my dream class. It is taught by Artists Azin Seraj and Professor Katherine Sherwood. Here is part of the class description:

Meditation is arguably the most ancient, powerful, and yet simple spiritual practice in the world. It is known in various forms in nearly all times and cultures, and plays a part in every religious tradition. This experimental workshop will examine how meditation can affect your art both in terms of practice and content.

Part of the incredible reading list is A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle and  The Field by Lynne McTaggart. They also watch the film Divine Horsemen: The Living Gods of Haiti by Maya Deren and present the work of Emma Kunz.

OMG, I wish I had this course in college.

Thank you Katherine and Azin, for creating such an incredible class.
