Feeling Welcomed Again

I signed up at the neighborhood gym and started working out a few months ago.

I can’t tell you how amazing this feels.  What makes it even better is the woman who opens the gym in the morning. Heather is her name.

She is so welcoming. On my first day, she smiled at me (through her mask) and unlocked the door as soon as she saw me. She explained that she gets there early to work out and she would be happy to let me (and anyone else who arrived) inside before the gym was officially open.

The gym is also inviting with air filters, fans everywhere, and all the machines being wiped down and disinfected continuously. There are only about two or three other people who work out as early as I do.

In this last year of everyone people pulling back as I approached, or crossing the street when they saw me walking my dog, meeting Heather on that day almost brought tears to my eyes. Here was a woman who was going out of her way to invite me in after a year of feeling so separate from some of my closest friends and family.

I know all the backing away was not personal during this year, yet just by going back to the gym, I realized how hard it has been emotionally.

As we move out into the world again it is so easy to feel overwhelmed. Our nervous systems are now so overstimulated after this prolonged isolation. I have been scheduling healings and bodywork for myself to stay grounded and make this transition as easy as possible. I have also noticed how profoundly helpful healings have been for my clients as they step back out into the world.

Still, I can’t WAIT to see Heather tomorrow !!!!!!

Healing: The Experience of New Energies

It still amazes me how every healing session is so different.

Just this week, I felt a completely new energy, frequency, or level of consciousness that had never shown up before.  It felt dark (in a deep way, not a shadowy way), refined, detoxing, and very still.

Profoundly still.

The client I was working with often releases energy in her body with strong muscle spasms that throw her arms off the side of the massage table. These releases realign her shoulder/rotator cuff, but that day she had barely perceptible micro-movements in her neck and upper body.

She was so relaxed afterward. The next day I asked her to write more about what she experienced in the session:

“This session was unlike any before. I quickly dropped into a deeply peaceful expansiveness. I had little to no sense of my physical body or Jeri’s physical presence – just a crystalline peacefulness. I felt a much-needed sense of stillness and calm. Amazing session!! “

Healing: The Gifts Of Andrzej Skwira

Andrzej Skwira

Andrzej Skwira has left the earth.

He is a great spirit, and while he was embodied on the planet he transformed many lives, including mine.

During my Clarity Breathwork training about fifteen years ago, I did ten breathes with him. To be certified in Clarity Breathwork at that time, part of the process was to breathe ten times with a man and ten sessions with a woman.

Before working with Anjay, I had only worked one-on-one with my first breathworker, Maggie Ostara. Maggie held space for me with so much strength and intensity; I would have never gone to anyone else if I had not wanted to be certified. I am so glad wanted to be certified.

On the days I would meet with Anjay, I would drive early in the morning to Pacifica from Oakland. Sometimes the fog was so thick I almost had to pull the car over.  It was like driving to a different country, to another world. I would get there early and walk on the beach before meeting him in the hotel where he and Ashanna were giving sessions.

I opened to a whole new dimension of presence, peace, and life in my sessions with Anjay. I often think back to the talks we had before and after I breathed. Those sessions expanded my consciousness and created the foundation of my meditation practice.

How can you thank someone who has made such a difference in your life, especially when they have left the earth? Maybe one way is to share this story of how much deeper I live my life because of my work with him.

Thank you, Anjay.

Healing for Change

We have all had different experiences in this last year of sheltering in place, yet almost all of us are starting to slowly step back out into the world.

Many of us are not used to being around more than a few people at a time, seeing friends face to face, or even being in new spaces such as stores, other people’s homes and cafes.

All of this takes a lot more energy and attention than we are used to. What feels safe now? Our nervous systems are overwhelmed with all the new information. Do you feel more tired than you used to after doing less?

Regular healing sessions during this time can help you reset your nervous system as you acclimate to all the new stimulation. This helps keep you connected to your body and inner guidance.

Being kind to yourself also makes transitions much easier – even when the shift is expansive and positive.

Grounding Is Healing

Standing Barefoot On The Earth

Currently, I am seeing many clients with compromised sixth and seventh chakras. Over the last few months I am finding that these energy centers are not as open as the other five chakras.

The sixth energy center, or third eye chakra, rules perception, intelligence, and visualization. At the top of the head, the seventh chakra is the center of self-transcendence and connection to our highest wisdom.

It is no wonder when these two energy centers are not balanced we feel stuck, disconnected, uninspired, and even depressed.

I have noticed these two chakras open up in my healing sessions as soon as my client becomes grounded. I can feel the difference in a few minutes of holding their feet.

The simple act of helping my clients ground has profoundly affected their sense of well-being and emotional balance.  Sometimes all it takes is one session.

Getting a healing session is, of course, a great way to make sure that you are reground. Yet, if you suddenly feel spacey, out-of-it, or weirdly disconnected, there are simple things you can immediately do to rebalance.

Try standing barefoot on the earth for at least ten minutes. Twenty minutes is better, but I know we don’t always have that kind of time—Check in with your body before and after to see if you notice a difference.

If you can’t get outside, you can try energetically grounding.  Put your attention on the bottoms of your feet and/or the base of your spine, and imagine a grounding cord connecting to the center of the earth. This is a basic grounding technique that is so simple and so effective. It becomes more tangible the more you do it. Try it and see if you notice a difference.

Healing Time

The first thing I do before a healing is write down what time the session begins.

I almost always have no sense of ‘normal’ time during a healing. It’s really wild.

Time is a very fluid, non-linear experience in the healing state.  Sometimes when I first look at the clock after what feels like only ten minutes into a session, I find that it has been over thirty minutes.  Other times I can feel like I have been in an eternal deep state for quite a while and I am sure the session must almost be over – only to look at the clock and discover it has only been fifteen minutes.

Even after so many years of healing, I still find this incredible.

A Healing Image

From the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot Deck

This is the tarot card that most clearly depicts what I experience in the healing state. Some people might think this is odd, that maybe the Star, or Sun card would be more appropriate.

One of the traditional meanings of Temperance is moderation, and over the years I have read several writers who say Temperance is not their favorite card. I get that. I mean, who wants to moderate anything? Especially after this last year of everything being moderated.

Yet, beyond moderation is balance and harmony. I have written before how I describe the healing state as that place of perfect equilibrium, of the place of ‘suspended enoughness.’ Where the flow of the water between the cups becomes still, and that stillness contains all movement.

According to Rachel Pollack in her book The New Tarot Handbook (Rachel Pollack is a genius, by the way,  and I have a signed copy of this book):

” Notice that what the angel is doing is impossible, since water will not pour at an angle. One meaning of this card is to calmly do something you used to think was beyond your capabilities. The angel appears so peaceful, focused, even unemotional, yet the wings beat so powerfully the picture cannot contain them.”

Imagery is powerful. Art often opens me up to the next level of what is possible.

Superhuman: The Invisible Made Visible

“… The film ultimately shows that once the invisible worlds are made visible, this attained higher awareness will transform humans into superhumans.”

– From the 1091 Pictures

I found this documentary very interesting. It presents a series of scientific experiments and demonstrations that gave me many insights into my own healing practice – the work I do every day.

Enjoy!

Healing: A Total Dropping Of Any “Trying”

Below is a testimony from a client.  It beautifully describes that place of not thinking.

“Driving home I was trying to articulate what I felt during our session today. The closest I came was that I felt a deep “relaxation” (for lack of a better term)–a total dropping of any “trying”. You set the intention that I enter fully and completely into the present moment and I think that’s what happened. It was so profound, a space of not even thinking about what I “should” be doing (very rare for me).
Thank you so much, Jeri. You’re an amazing healer and I’m so grateful I get to work with you. I can’t wait for next month!”

Healing: Describing That Place Of Perfect Equilibrium

Sitting In The Mystery

I have always felt the need to write about the altered states of consciousness and subtle realms I experience in my healing practice.

Many healers don’t have this compulsion, and I admit that I think they are better off. Yet, I find writing and verbalizing about the evolution and unfolding of the healing space brings a deeper understanding and clarity to my work.

The initial documentation and descriptions immediately help me to process what just happened in the session. I have also looked back at something I wrote years earlier and realized something I totally missed before. This has been so valuable.

Writing also makes it a lot easier to help clients understand how a healing session may benefit them.  Most people still think energy work is crazy, so I have to know how to talk about the energetic healing process with clarity and confidence.  Finding the perfect words makes everything more tangible and conscious.

In my book, A Business of Healing,  I wrote about how many practitioners describe the healing space as compassionate. I never felt the word compassion had anything to do with the profound stillness I felt; I always felt that this state was emotionless.

I now describe that place of perfect equilibrium as ‘suspended enoughness.’ That state of mind where there is no impulse to get something, think something, or move in any way. This enoughness is a quiet bliss. When the fullness of the moment is enough.

Being in that state of suspended enoughness is very, very healing.  So today, this is how I describe the deepest state of healing I know—tomorrow – who knows.  Everything is continually changing.
