Healing Touch For Phantom Pain

DSCF3335.JPG copyEven after being an energetic practitioner for over 20 years, there are still moments when I just have to step back in awe. Awe and profound gratitude. This work is so powerful and beautiful.

Last week I had one of these moments after a session with a client who had phantom pain.

Phantom pain is experienced in a limb or an organ that is not physically part of the body; often an amputated arm or leg.

In the clinic where I share Healing Touch, I worked with a woman who had extreme pain in her left leg that had been amputated many years before.  She was suffering. She told me her pain medication was no longer controlling her pain and on a scale of one to ten, her pain level was a 10.

I could feel with my hands the areas in her biofield where the “blockage” was – about 6” where her left knee would have been and then all along the inner shin from the knee down. She was so sensitive to my hands in her energy field that I had to move very slowly, or she would twinge in agony. For the first ten minutes of the session, I held my hands just outside the area of the blockage of the knee that was physically not there. I used a technique in Healing Touch called pain drain.

It took at least 20 minutes before she could even begin to relax. The full session was 50 minutes.

After the healing, she looked so relieved. She stated that her pain was now a 3. She was also very comforted to know that I could feel exactly where her pain was in the leg that was not physically there. We had our session at a clinic, so I will not be able to follow up with her. I don’t know if the pain came back after our session, or eventually went away.

I’ve never worked in my private practice with phantom pain to see if a series of healings would completely and permanently relieve phantom pain, but in my sessions with Veterans and those done in volunteer clinics, Healing Touch has been very effective in reducing phantom pain.

Awe and profound gratitude. It’s a good feeling.

A Video and Story of Self-Healing

Yolanda Calderon
Yolanda Calderon

Here is an engaging video about self-healing from my friend Yolanda.

Besides the inspiring story of how she healed arthritis in her neck, the stretches I did with her as I watched this video opened my 4th (heart) and 5th (throat) chakras. Exercise is an excellent way to keep your energy centers open.

The chin tuck, platysma and trapezius stretches were my favorite movements. I have also been squatting more often these last few days, since Yolanda first told me about how beneficial it is, and I am surprised at how much looser my hips are.

Enjoy the video!
Thank you, Yolanda.

A Video Report: Healing Touch Therapy Reduces Pain And Anxiety

I just love this little news video about Healing Touch. Click here to watch it.

I love the shot of a women receiving a session with her full-length boots on. I love hearing about another headache that was released with energy work, and I love the fact this was made in Ketchum, Idaho.

Enjoy.

Healing After Surgery

Healing Room
Healing Room

As Healing Touch Practitioner Janna Moll writes: “Clients tend to come in batches”*

The latest wave of clients in my healing practice have been contacting me for pain management and healing after surgery.

Post-surgery sessions are where I have seen people cynical of energy work join the Healing Touch fan club. I had friends who would roll their eyes at me when I talked about the benefits of energy work, yet after a post-surgery session they enthusiastically starting referring clients to me.

The most obvious effect of an energy session after surgery is the reduction of physical pain. For ankle and knee surgeries, clients have said they had no pain. It’s quite amazing.

Another incredibly wonderful thing is the clearing of anesthesia from the body, helping reduce nausea and headaches.

The third factor that I find immensely helpful is that Healing Touch helps my client relax and let go of anxiety. This helps them sleep so much better.

I feel like I am on a soap box here, but I can’t help it. Healing Touch and Energy work are SO HELPFUL when recovering from surgery. If you are getting ready to have surgery, find a Healing Touch Practitioner or another energy worker to give you a healing as soon as possible after the surgery. Having a session before surgery is also recommended.

Many hospitals – such as the Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center – have volunteer programs where Healing Touch is readily available. That means it’s free!

Click here for a list of facilities that have Healing Touch. Many nurses are also Healing Touch Practitioners, so ask your Hospital if Healing Touch sessions are available. Click here for a link to Certified Healing Touch Practitioners all over the country.

Energy work makes a difference.

Healing Touch In The Hospital

Healing Touch In The Hospital
Healing Touch In The Hospital

A few months ago I was asked to do a series of healings in a nearby hospital. My client could not be touched because she was in a very fragile state, had intense pain, and was in contact precautions. In this picture I am wearing the protective gloves, mask and paper robe I was asked to put on before entering my client’s room.

Healing Touch doesn’t require physical touch and is very effective when I work off the body, directly in my client’s energy field. This set of healing sessions helped significantly to reduce my client’s physical pain. I was told she also slept better and had fewer side effects from her pain medication.

I also gave my client’s daughter a healing, even if I only had 15 minutes for her, every time I went to the hospital. Caregivers can really benefit from even a few minutes of energy work, especially when they are also sleeping overnight at the hospital.

So you don’t have to wait to get a healing until you, or a loved one, are discharged from the hospital. Ask about Healing Touch at your medical facility. You can also check here for a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner in your area.

Note to healers: If you are wearing a sweater, I suggest taking it off before putting on the paper suit. Even though it feels thin and light, the paper is really warm.

A Day Long Workshop: Sounding Into Breath

Cait McWhir
Cait McWhir

On July 28th, 2013 Mary Gaetjens and I will be co-facilitating a Clarity Breath Workshop with vocalist and musician Cait McWhir.

We will have a morning breathe, followed by a healthy, nurturing lunch, and then a second breathe in the afternoon.

If you have ever experienced a Clarity Breathwork session before, you know how life changing one session can be. Now is your chance to do two sessions in one day! This will allow you to reach even deeper states of consciousness and healing to create real and lasting change in your life. This will be a very beautiful and transformational day.

Cait, a practitioner of Sound Yoga, will help guide us into a profound and sacred space before each breathe utilizing vocalization with ‘bija seed syllable’ sounds and toning.  These sound vibrations and resonances will help awaken, clear and expand the level of awareness within our bodies and energy centers.

Please come and join us.

Cait McWhir, originally from Northern Ireland, is a vocalist and musician who has been exploring music and sound from around the globe for most of her adult life.  She is also a founding member of the world music trio Bindi Society.
