Healing After Surgery

As Healing Touch Practitioner Janna Moll writes: “Clients tend to come in batches”*

The latest wave of clients in my healing practice have been contacting me for pain management and healing after surgery.

Post-surgery sessions are where I have seen people cynical of energy work join the Healing Touch fan club. I had friends who would roll their eyes at me when I talked about the benefits of energy work, yet after a post-surgery session they enthusiastically starting referring clients to me.

The most obvious effect of an energy session after surgery is the reduction of physical pain. For ankle and knee surgeries, clients have said they had no pain. It’s quite amazing.

Another incredibly wonderful thing is the clearing of anesthesia from the body, helping reduce nausea and headaches.

The third factor that I find immensely helpful is that Healing Touch helps my client relax and let go of anxiety. This helps them sleep so much better.

I feel like I am on a soap box here, but I can’t help it. Healing Touch and Energy work are SO HELPFUL when recovering from surgery. If you are getting ready to have surgery, find a Healing Touch Practitioner or another energy worker to give you a healing as soon as possible after the surgery. Having a session before surgery is also recommended.

Many hospitals – such as the Kaiser Permanente Walnut Creek Medical Center – have volunteer programs where Healing Touch is readily available. That means it’s free!

Click here for a list of facilities that have Healing Touch. Many nurses are also Healing Touch Practitioners, so ask your Hospital if Healing Touch sessions are available. Click here for a link to Certified Healing Touch Practitioners all over the country.

Energy work makes a difference.

Healing Touch In The Hospital

Healing Touch In The Hospital
Healing Touch In The Hospital

A few months ago I was asked to do a series of healings in a nearby hospital. My client could not be touched because she was in a very fragile state, had intense pain, and was in contact precautions. In this picture I am wearing the protective gloves, mask and paper robe I was asked to put on before entering my client’s room.

Healing Touch doesn’t require physical touch and is very effective when I work off the body, directly in my client’s energy field. This set of healing sessions helped significantly to reduce my client’s physical pain. I was told she also slept better and had fewer side effects from her pain medication.

I also gave my client’s daughter a healing, even if I only had 15 minutes for her, every time I went to the hospital. Caregivers can really benefit from even a few minutes of energy work, especially when they are also sleeping overnight at the hospital.

So you don’t have to wait to get a healing until you, or a loved one, are discharged from the hospital. Ask about Healing Touch at your medical facility. You can also check here for a Certified Healing Touch Practitioner in your area.

Note to healers: If you are wearing a sweater, I suggest taking it off before putting on the paper suit. Even though it feels thin and light, the paper is really warm.

Three Healers Who Write About Energetic Healing

  DSCF4910IMG_4181Rose #1

Since I started this blog two years ago, I have found several other healers writing about their practices and how energetic healing can enrich our lives. In this post I would like to share three of those blogs with you.

The first blog is by Judith Schutz, Judith Treating cancer with Energy Healing (including the Bengston Method and the Domancic Method): A resource on the use of bioenergy healing to treat cancer, with commentary on working with the Bengston Bioenergy Healing Method, the Domancic Method, Matrix Energetics, Quantum Touch, and Reiki.

Besides sharing her immense experience with the above energetic modalities, Judith is frequently challenging the unconscious ways in which our media and healthcare system treat cancer.

In her short, yet profound post “Some thoughts on Roger Ebert “losing his battle to cancer”  she writes:

“This metaphor of cancer as a war that is waged between the disease and the patient has got to go”.

“…We need to find a more useful metaphor, one that gives us new ways of looking at this disease, that will perhaps trigger different, and less harmful, treatments. How about the alternative where we look at the cancer cell as confused? A cell that has lost its connection to the whole that could perhaps be taught to return to normal…”

Judith currently uses all the healing modalities she has studied in the treatment of sports injuries. Click here for her Treating Sports Injuries With Bioenergy blog.

The next blog is from Reiki Master Pamela Miles who has been doing Reiki since 1986. Pamela’s Reiki practice is in New York where she also teaches. Pamela has a wonderful website, yet I received an email from her a few weeks ago stating that she is going to redo it. Her video on Reiki is one of the best introductions I have seen on energetic healing, so I hope she keeps that on her site.

I personally have been very inspired by Pamela’s website. Her commitment, clarity, and years of healing experience make her blog an incredible resource.

There are two subjects she addresses often that I have found particularly interesting. The first one is self-care. Pamela is a big advocate of daily Reiki treatments. Check out her post The Most Important Thing. Since discovering Pamela’s blog, I have made a conscious effort to make sure I give myself daily Reiki treatments. I have really noticed a difference, especially in my emotional well-being.

Pamela also writes about describing Reiki as more of a spiritual practice instead of an energy medicine. In her post Reiki: Spiritual Practice or Energy Medicine? she states:

“As a spiritual practice, a Reiki treatment doesn’t rearrange the biofield as much as it reminds the system of its capacity to self-heal. A Reiki hand sounds the metaphorical wellness chord, the “sound” of which calls the human system to reorganize around its inherent wellness, thereby increasing consonance in the system, and reducing dissonance from within, rather than sweeping it away from outside, as is done by an energy medicine treatment. The Reiki hand may be the soft mallet that sounds the gong, but the resonance, reorganization, and healing come from within. Yes, the practitioner plays a role, but Reiki healing remains essentially self-healing.

In energy medicine, the therapist does the housecleaning, whereas through spiritual practice, we alter our state from within. Reiki is a spiritual practice that has therapeutic applications. That doesn’t make it energy medicine, but it means it can look like energy medicine.”

From this perspective, Healing Touch would then be more of an energy medicine. This is interesting to me because as an energetic practitioner I LOVE Reiki, yet call myself a Healing Touch Practitioner for a variety of reasons too long to list now. When I give myself an energetic treatment I have always felt like I was doing Reiki, so Pamela’s thoughts on this make a lot of sense to me.

The third and last blog is from Barbara Litchfield, a Healing Touch colleague that I have yet to meet in person. Barbara has been blogging since 2007. Her writing style is heartfelt, honest and based on her own healing practice. From reading her blog, I can tell Barbara is a heart centered healer – deeply committed to helping people feel better.

Barbara’s post, Energy Therapy Changes the Energetic Pattern is nothing short of BRILLIANT. If you don’t have time to read it right now, click on the link, bookmark it and save it for later.

I hope you enjoy these blogs as much as I do.

A Healing Pattern

c. Jeri Lawson 2013 All Rights Reserved "Balance"There are moments in my healing sessions when I sense the client I am working with has reached a state of perfect balance.

These moments are experienced by my client as relief from the issue that he or she has come to see me for – such as lower back pain. In this healing pattern, his or her whole body has also deeply relaxed, and there is a feeling of complete emotional and mental peace.

This can happen in the first five minutes of the session.

If this is the case, my focus for the rest of the healing is setting or grounding that higher vibration in my client’s body while he or she is in this pain-free state. I set an intention to organize and assist my client in strengthening their energy field so they can hold this frequency for as long as possible.

Healing is then measured by how long my client can stay balanced after the session. This is good because transformation is happening at a rate that is safe and comfortable. There is less pain for  longer periods between sessions until the pain does not return. Sometimes this happens in one or two sessions and sometimes it takes many sessions. It is obvious to me and the client that each session is making a difference.

As I write this I realize it sounds like I am causing the balance to happen, but really I am just following the energy during the session with conscious intention. This always creates the best results for my client. As a Healer I set the space for the healing to happen and then just follow the energy.

Healing Touch at Stanford Hospital

A short video on how Healing Touch is supporting woman with breast cancer at Stanford Hospital in Palo Alto.

Healing Partners is mentioned in this clip, a community-based program that pairs women diagnosed with breast cancer with Healing Touch Volunteers.

It’s so inspiring to see people with cancer receiving energetic support in a hospital setting. Healing Touch really makes a difference.

Healing Touch For Asthma

Mark Gagne
Mark Gagne
Writer and Event Manager

I would like to thank Mark for taking the time to write this testimonial about his Healing Touch session. It is amazing how much I have learned from what my clients have written me.

This testimonial is a good example of how gentle and easy emotional release can be.

“I have had four healing touch sessions with Jeri, the latest for my asthma. The great thing about Jeri’s brilliant work is that her intuitive healing abilities often uncover root causes of health issues, such as painful loss, as well as removing ailments that are not foremost in her client’s mind.

In my case, I work on my feet as an Event Manager for many hours at a time, and Jeri’s healing touch session this week, though focused on my respiratory health, ended up releasing a lot of pain I’ve had in my knees and feet.  After Jeri finished, she commented to me that she was drawn  to work with my legs and feet for much of the session. I then relayed an old knee injury to her from some 30 years ago that I have come to take for granted. Since that healing, I’ve worked a few times and my knees felt lighter and more relaxed.

Jeri’s skill at transporting me through her gentle healing touch work is unmatched. I leave each session feeling energized, renewed and refocused. My entire body always feels completely relaxed, and my mind feels lighter and more alert. As for my asthma, since my session, I haven’t been wheezing and have only used my inhaler a couple times all week, which is considerably less than usual.

I hadn’t worked with Jeri for over two years due to scheduling and work logistics on my end, and had undergone a series of traumatic events in my life including three deaths in my immediate family as well as an extremely stressful legal battle. Although I sought Jeri’s help specifically for my asthma, the first sensation I felt during our session was an immense feeling of heavy emotional release, followed by warm memories of my sister, who has been gone for two years. I wasn’t thinking about her or feeling consciously bereft lately, but during this healing touch session, I knew that something wonderful had shifted, and I feel very blessed for it. I also experienced similar releases of heavy, negative energy surrounding the recent passing of both my parents. These were events that I thought I had worked through, but Jeri’s work and the perpetual lightness I feel now tell I wasn’t yet finished.

Thank you, Jeri!”

One Healer’s Perspective on Electromagnetic Radiation

Healing Touch is very effective in grounding and stabilizing the energy fields of my clients who are sensitive to Electromagnetic Radiation. The energetic disturbances from Electromagnetic Radiation have manifested in their auras and physical bodies as low-grade headaches, fatigue, muscle spasms, irritability and anxiety.

Electromagnetic Radiation is a difficult subject for me to write about, mainly because I was personally so overwhelmed with the subject when I first learned about it. Yet as an energetic healer, I see that clients challenged with the symptoms of Electromagnetic Radiation, or EMR, can be dramatically helped by addressing and then managing its affect on their life. Electromagnetic Radiation is definitely a factor in my scope of practice as a Healing Touch Practitioner.

"Wires" c.JeriLawson2013AllRightsReservedElectromagnetic radiation includes radio waves, microwaves, infrared light, visible light, ultraviolet light, x-rays, and gamma rays. Mobile phones use Electromagnetic Radiation in the microwave range. We are actually putting small microwaves to our ear everyday. Just using earphones may keep you from getting low-grade headaches. The World Health Organization has classified cell phone radio-frequency as a “possible carcinogen”. There are ongoing court battles about how much the consumer should be warned about the dangerous levels of radiation they may be exposed to when they buy a cell phone.

For years I have been working with clients compromised by Electromagnetic Radiation. I have felt with my hands the effects of EMR in their energy field as a tingling or spiky buzzing all around the body. This buzzing or vibrating is similar to the energy fields of my clients who have just had a radiation treatment for cancer or an MRI. I have also felt the effects of EMR as a very high vibration running up and down the center of my client’s body, like someone had just plucked a very high frequency guitar string.

The sensations I feel with my hands are only the first step in detecting if my client’s biofield is overwhelmed by EMR. It usually takes many sessions for me to tell if a client is specifically EMR sensitive. There are so many other
environmental issues that can cause interference or compromise a person’s energy field – such as air pollution, toxins in food, jet lag, or working close by a MRI machine in a hospital.

I ask my clients questions like these to determine if and how much they are affected by EMR: “When do you feel the most irritable and when do you feel the most calm and centered?” “When do you NOT have headaches?” “When did you first notice this “frazzled” feeling?”

I have also asked them to record their headaches and bouts of irritability over an extended period of time, and found this record helpful in discovering the true cause of their symptoms. I had one client who realized she was allergic to a seasonal tree and another realized her symptoms flared up only when her mother visited, even though she like her mother.

In one Healing Touch session with me, many times what might have been an imbalance in my client’s biofield caused by EMR is brought into balance and stays that way. Symptoms disappear and don’t come back. The cause might have been EMR, but then again it might not have been.

Early on in my exploration of EMR, I had a client who was unable to balance his energy even after several massages and then several healings. I bought a GIA Pendant for him because I suspected electromagnetic radiation might be part of the reason his energy was so out of balance.

GIA Wellness is a company that makes pendants and other products that “…are designed to address the effects of daily stressors, including electromagnetic radiation.”

As soon as my client put the pendant on he said the low-grade headache he had went away. My suspicions were right and the GIA Wellness products have been very helpful in helping him to stay grounded, balanced and healthy ever since.

There are many good products and companies addressing the effects of Electromagnetic Radiation on our bodies and lives. I’ve been using GIA Wellness products for over two years now and have been very impressed with the products and customer service. I have a Harmonizer™ in my healing room (it’s on loan to a client as I write this), and cell guards on my phones and computer.

I recommend Asha Stokes in Oakland, California if you are interesting in learning more about the products from GIA Wellness. She is – or was – very sensitive to EMR and the GIA products have greatly helped her and her family. Her phone number is 510-407-0636 and her website is here if you would like to contact her.

I was taking pictures with my smart phone a few months ago and I noticed it was getting uncomfortably hot in my hands. I realized my GIA Cell guard, which neutralizes harmful effects of EMR, had fallen off the phone earlier in the day.  I was so relieved when I found the cell guard a few hours later in my bag and reattached it to my phone. I was surprised at how quickly I had noticed the cell guard was gone and how obviously different my phone felt. I have been using the GIA products for so long now I did not realize what a difference they were making.

Losing then quickly finding the cell guard made me realize it was time to write this post.

One Healing Touch Session Makes a Difference After Ten Years of Migraines

Chris de Asis
Chris de Asis

This is a Healing Touch testimonial from the current President of the BNI Chapter A’s Referral Team. I belonged to this group for two years to build my business as a Healing Touch Practitioner. This was a very smart move for my business and I met some really great people.

Each BNI chapter allows one person per occupation to join and all members must be approved via an application process. BNI’s philosophy is “Givers Gain” and all members are expected to build relationships between each other so they can give and receive referrals. I still refer the friends I met there and use their services.

When I joined the group I realized immediately most people there had no idea what an energetic healer did. I had to learn how to quickly and efficiently communicate how beneficial energetic healing can be to earn the trust of my chapter.

I gave each member one free healing session with me. Below is a testimonial by Chris de Asis. Chris had told me right after her session she had enjoyed her healing, but I had no idea how much it had helped her migraines until she sent me this:

“I went to Jeri about 2 years ago for a free healing session and it has changed the way I see alternative medicine. I have had these migraines that are very debilitating for about 10 years. My medical doctor told me that it has something to do with my temporomandibular joint.  In any case, nothing was working to permanently remove my migraines. I was too scared to take the prescribed medicine my doctor gave me because one of the side effects that promotes heart palpitations and increased heart beats. Since I come from a family with a long line of heart disease, I was very skeptical in taking the medication to say the least.
Well, after my healing I felt better the next day and my migraines now do not come as often and they are not as painful. I appreciate the healing session that Jeri gave me and have referred a client to her as well.  She is a very knowledgeable person for people going through cancer and I know through first hand experience that what she does actually works and heals your body.  Thanks Jeri, for taking care of my migraines.
