A Business Of Healing By Jeri Lawson

JeriBookCover

This feels like an odd week to announce my book. The orange sky, dark days, and fires have added another layer of craziness to our lives. My family in Oregon almost had to evacuate their home. These are crazy times.

So, that being said,  The book I have been writing for the last year is now available.

It is not a book about the euphoria of healing. This book is about my experience as a professional healer over the last twenty-five years.  There are plenty of wonderful and inspiring books written on Reiki, Healing Touch, and other energetic modalities. This book is about issues and paradoxes in my practice that I couldn’t find in books by other healers, things that took me a long time to understand on my own.

It is about how I learned to trust the healing process and let go of everything blocking me from being fully present for my clients. How I learned to hold an energetic space that would allow others to self-heal.

“It took me over twenty years to develop the ability to completely trust the energy. To understand that whatever happens during a healing is, and will always be, perfect. This trust has become an embodied skill. Now fully embedded in my muscle memory, this healing skill is my superpower.

We are all capable of accessing our unique superpower, and it certainly does not need to take twenty years.”

Healing: Creativity Is Our Power

“Creativity is inherent in being human and is key to how we learn and grow; creativity is our power. And in this day and age of great change, exercising our creativity is a revolutionary act.”

Beth Barany, Writer

Do you feel stuck and uncreative? Do you feel like you just can’t finish that book, painting, or business plan you started? Is it hard to stay focused on your projects as the world appears to be unraveling?

A distance healing may be just what you need to clear whatever is holding you back from being fully present in the moment and connected to your inner guidance. An energetic session may clarify what you are called to create at this time, and what the world most needs from you.

A Reiki or Healing Touch session may also help you realize that the most creative thing you can do is let go of the thought that anything even needs to be created. Maybe being able to fully relax into not-doing is what opens the door to your greatest creative flow and allows you to step into your greatest service for the planet.

Distance healing is powerful.

Distance Healing

The Healing Space

For the last 35 or so days, I have been sharing healing energy at a distance.

When Shelter-In-Place began, I was working with several clients with compromised immune systems, including two women near the end of their radiation/chemotherapy treatments.  They had been doing so well; I persuaded them to try a remote session so I could continue to energetically support them.

The distance healings proved to be very helpful. It was the beginning of a whole new learning curve for me in my healing practice.

Many of my regular clients are now working with me remotely. I also have new clients I have never met in person call me for a session. I could never have imagined this happening before the pandemic.

I have to admit that when I first started distance healings, it was not effortless on my part. It was one thing to do a distance healing once every two weeks or so, but to have my whole practice become nonlocal opened up a new level of energy. I had to learn to stay grounded in a new way. It has taken me a month to relax into it and fully enjoy these distance sessions.

At the start of the pandemic, I also emailed five of my clients who are also healers and wrote about how helpful distance healings could be for their clients. I explained the procedure I used and encouraged them to find the protocol that worked best in their practice. All five enthusiastically reported back about their results.

I have found that distance healings are just as effective as in-body treatments, I swear, sometimes they appear to be even more beneficial. They also take about ten minutes less time.

If you have taken a Healing Touch, Reiki, or any other healing class, try reaching out to friends and family to share a distance healing. Even meditating on the phone with another person is powerful.  If you pray, chant, sing or do yoga, dedicate the beautiful energy of your practice out into the world. Do not underestimate the power of your intention. You don’t have to be a professional healer to create great healing and balance internally and externally.

Stillness And Healing

“By being still everything is illuminated. When everything is illuminated there is no difference anymore between stillness and movement.”

Healing And Evolving Paradigms

In this last month, I would describe my experience of energy, of the collective consciousness, as both “thick” and “fast.”

“Thick” in a way that is not bad, or negative, or even emotional, just denser. There are times when walking from my bathroom to the kitchen feels so oddly exhausting. Doing little things like washing dishes or writing emails takes so much more time and focus. It sometimes feels like everything is deep underwater.

These “thick” experiences do not last for very long, yet I still feel slightly disoriented when I return to normal. Maybe that’s because normal also feels like such a continually evolving state of consciousness.

One morning several weeks ago, I woke up feeling the denseness, and I could not shake it off. Thank God I had a distance healing booked for myself that day with Laurie Ratto. That fifty minutes shifted everything. I felt fabulous for the rest of the day, and it was one of the most effective healings I have ever received. It was incredible how different I felt.

I am also experiencing the energy of sheltering in place as “fast.”  I started noticing this before the virus, but it is really amping up now. I have been doing one or two distance healings a day since we locked in place, and it is crazy how powerful these sessions have been.

I do distance healings as if my clients are lying on my massage table. I can feel the energy under my palms moving – fast and intensely. People are healing and rebalancing so quickly. It’s mind-boggling.

I have been doing distance healings for the last twenty-five years, yet only as a last resort, when my clients were in pain and could not get to my office. I knew distance healings were effective, yet the concept of remote healing is difficult to market; I used to find it challenging to ask for $150.00 for something people don’t think is real. I’m not finding it challenging now.

My paradigm of what is possible has certainly opened up. 🙂

Welcome 2020, The Year Of Perfect Vision

This year I recommit even more lovingly to radical self-care. To keep moving toward the light, rather than fight the darkness.

It’s day three of the new year and I am two days behind in my 30-day yoga challenge. I am not going to let that stop me from taking care of myself. I recommit to my yoga practice this morning and validate all the wonderful things I have done in the last three days while I was not doing yoga.

My vision is to fully enjoy every moment of this precious life.

Poetry In A Healing Session

The quote below is from a much longer email written by a client after her Healing Touch session. She receives weekly healings and has an amazing mental capacity to remember her experience of the energy work with meticulous clarity and detail. She is also a gifted writer and I have learned so much from her writing. This particular session consisted of a long Charka Connection as taught in the Healing Touch Program:
“There were so many different things going on. It’s been a while since there were quite that many things that happened. I swear–every time you shifted to a different part of my body, my experience changed entirely. The one thing that was consistent was that there was a quietness (I wanted initially to say stillness, but that was not the right word) that moved through me. It wasn’t any kind of movement or vibration or heat or anything; it felt most closely like those really still rivers–the way the water can be almost flat but still moving. That’s sort of what it felt running through me the entire time. There were moments of heat and warmth, but not really much more intense energy that that quiet movement.”
Quiet movement.
The way the water can be almost flat but still moving.
It’s poetry.

Anxiety and The Healing Practice of Tonglen

There are so many people suffering from anxiety at this time. The pain of anxiety is isolating. I know when I feel the most disheartened over current events, I feel the most alone.

My daily meditative practice is the Universal Ishaya’s Ascension as taught by Neika Supriya Whittemore.  Yet, in the last few weeks, I have found starting my meditation with the practice of Tonglen to be extremely beneficial.

Tonglen connects me with the compassion I feel for others who are having the same experience I am, and in feeling the compassion I have for others I am able to also hold that state of compassion for myself.  Self-compassion is a powerful, comforting healing energy. *

Below is a video (under eight minutes) on the practice of Tonglen by Pema Chodron.

Click here for an informative article from Elephant Journal with several more videos by Pema on Tonglen.   I really like the forty-seven-minute video by Sounds True.  Just listening to Pema explaining how to do Tonglen is a beautiful way to start the morning. 🙂

May you find as much joy and healing from this practice as I have.

*The word compassion is used in different ways by healers and teachers. The state of compassion experienced here is a heartfelt, emotional connection.

Entrainment During a Healing Session

I have to warn you right away; this is really a nerdy post about the subtleties of energetic healing. Since many of my readers are Energy Practitioners, I decided I would go ahead and share it anyway.

There have been times in my healing practice when I have sensed a client entraining with my energy field. There are probably many types of entrainment, but this is the physical synchronization of their body rhythm to mine.

I didn’t even know what entrainment was for the first five or six years after I first experienced it, when it first happened I just thought of it as a healing connection of some kind. Then I read about entraining in a science/healing journal and realized I had distinctly experienced it in healing sessions.

I feel physical entrainment happening in sections during the healing. I feel it in my arms and then in my client’s arms, then around my legs and then around my client’s legs, then around my hips… on and on, in no particular order. It is subtle, yet distinct from other energetic alignments.

This has only occurred a handful of times, sometimes for only a minute or two during a fifty minute session, yet it felt a little peculiar the first time I noticed it. It is such a physical connection, rather than an energetic one. In a funny way, it feels a little more personal.

The only time entraining happened for a whole session was during a healing with a woman whose husband had been out of town for the three days. When I felt her body physically entraining to my body, I remembered she had told me it was difficult for her to sleep at night when her husband was away. I realized she must be entraining with him at night, and when he was not there she became energetically “wobbly.”

The client was emotionally and physically out of energetic alignment when she came to the session, but after the session, she left grounded and much calmer.

Healing is the process of assisting others in rebalancing and relaxing their energy so that they can heal themselves. Entrainment is just one of infinite possible ways balance and healing can happen in a session.

See, I told you this post would be pretty nerdy.
