Manifesting With Breathwork

I worked out of my home for the first eighteen years of my business. This worked really well until a shift occurred in my personal life, and the energy in my house changed. I knew it was time to move my practice outside my living space.
.
The ideal office opened up one block from my house. It was practically soundproof, with a beautiful garden outside, a creative community of friends and artists, and very, very good energy. It was perfect.
.
However, as soon as the possibility of moving my healing business became real, my limiting beliefs surrounding money and abundance hit me like a ton of bricks. I couldn’t believe how much fear surfaced. I could not get grounded and was even having mild panic attacks at night.
.
Could I afford it? Did I really want to create more financial stress in my life? Would my clients like the new office? There were so many emotional blocks I couldn’t even think coherently. Why the distress: wasn’t this the healing space that I always wanted? Isn’t my business grounded and flourishing?
.
I was desperate to clear my fear. I needed to say yes to the new healing space quickly, so I booked five consecutive days of Breathwork sessions for myself.  Four private sessions and one day-long Saturday workshop with two breathes. By doing this, I created a mini-retreat for myself, focused on clearing all emotional and mental blocks that were keeping me from moving forward.
.
I could feel the “rightness” of renting the office in my first breathe. During the breathe I was in an abundant creative state connected to my highest wisdom. Yet, this clarity only lasted for a few hours after my first three sessions. Several hours after the session a deeper level of emotional blocks would re-surface, and I would then contract back into the fear.
.
It wasn’t until my fourth daily breathe that I could completely embody my new level of consciousness and hold the confidence to rent the space. The rest of the breath sessions further helped me embody this new level of consciousness.
.
The day I started moving to into my healing space, it was so obvious I made the right move. I felt fantastic. What a transformation! I released so much old programming. It was a new beginning, and I felt so much lighter. I swear, creating change in my life has been so much easier since. I let go of some deep limiting beliefs.  This shift was so much more significant for me than just getting an office.
.
The next time you need to manifest the next level of your dream, try scheduling yourself a mini-breath retreat.
.
Clarity Breathwork is for letting go of what limits you from manifesting!

Prayer and Water

As a healer, I have learned that there are three substances that hold energy well: water, silk, and cotton. After I watched the video above, I was so moved, and much more aware of how connected we are on such a tangible, practical level. I started looking for more water videos and the two below reconfirmed this oneness. Enjoy.

Medicine Bags For Healing

When you are going through a difficult time, sometimes it is helpful to have something physical to hold on to.

I have found that creating and giving medicine bags to be a beautiful way to connect and comfort people who are grieving a loss, or are facing other significant life challenges.

I started making medicine bags after an artist collective in a warehouse called the Ghost Ship caught on fire in 2016. Thirty-six people died. While I was not close to anyone who lost their lives, many people I cared about in my office building and neighborhood were hit pretty hard by the tragedy. Making each person a medicine bag seemed like a tangible way to acknowledge their grief and share some healing energy.

I use crystals and gemstones in medicine bags, although you can use anything that has meaning for you or the person you are giving it to. Creating a medicine bag is a meditative ritual. I consciously hold the person who will receive the bag in my thoughts throughout the whole process of choosing the bag and selecting the stones. It’s a fascinating intuitive practice. So often I walk away with stones I had no idea I would decide on when I started.

The first thing I select is a small drawstring cloth bag that can be carried around in a pocket or purse, although medicine bags can be placed anywhere – such as on an altar or beside a bed. Then I pick up the first stone that catches my eye, and I think of it’s healing properties and the person it is being sent to. I carry it around for a few minutes until it feels like it wants to be included or not. I also write up a list of the healing properties of each stone.

Sagrada is an excellent place to conduct a medicine bag creation ritual. Mary, who has selected all the stones in the store, has written out the metaphysical properties of each stone on small pieces of paper that you can take with you. You don’t even have to write out the healing properties of the crystals.

Almost all my Ghost Ship medicine bags had a stone called Apache Tears because they absorb grief and release emotional pain. These shiny black gems help to forgive others without being bitter. Apache Tears received their name because it is said that when the tears of grieving Apache women who lost their loved ones fell to the ground, the tears became these rocks of Black Obsidian. Physically this stone calms muscle spasms, assists with detoxification of the body, helps with the absorption of vitamins and can also boost one’s immune system and strengthen the body. Apache Tears corresponds with the root chakra. All stones help with specific body issues and correspond to one of the seven chakras.

Rose Quartz is a stone of unconditional love and is a great addition to any bag. This pink stone has a high spiritual energy, but it is also calming and soothing. Carnelian is a beautiful orange stone I often add because it is so emotionally soothing.

Creating a medicine bag for yourself is also a fantastic process. It can be the perfect sacred ritual for setting a new intention or beginning a new project.

I hope you enjoy making medicine bags as much as I have.

Healing, Breathwork and True Compassion

Compassion is a word that many healers whom I greatly respect use to describe the state of consciousness they experience in their sessions.

I found this confusing for years. I kept trying to redefine compassion starting with the basics:

A Traditional Definition of Compassion From the Internet:

a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.”

This did not make any sense at all. I have never felt sorrow for my clients, much less think of them as stricken by misfortune. My strong desire to assist their healing process was also shifting and I could not comprehend, much less verbalize, what was happening.

Then I went through a divorce. During this process, I did many breath sessions. I have no idea how I would have made it through that time in my life without Breathwork, yet not every breathe left me feeling better about my life or my situation. Sometimes I would breathe right into the most painful feelings of grief, loss, failure, and shame. There were several sessions in which I felt emotionally overwhelmed – or trashed – after my breathe.

My breathwork practitioner held the most amazing and beautiful space for me during that time. I never once felt that my lack of “getting better” made her feel inadequate as a breathwork practitioner. Her ego was not invested in my healing. I never felt she thought less of me because I was such a mess. I could just focus and surrender to my process, as ugly as it appeared to me at the time.

All I felt from her was support, nonjudgement, and complete compassion. THAT FEELING OF TOTAL COMPASSION WAS SO HEALING. I will never forget what that was like; just being in that compassionate, nonjudgemental space was incredibly validating and grounding. I am tearing up as I write this. She showed me what true compassion really is.

My definition of compassion is unconditional love without an agenda, the ability to hold the abused and the abuser, the light and the dark, the “good” feelings and the “bad.” Compassion is the ability to hold everything in the moment, in the divine presence of All That Is. It is an energetic healing state.

Over the years, the less desire I have to “alleviate suffering” and be present with what is in the moment, the more effective my healing sessions have become for my clients.

Transmuting Energy and Healing Anxiety

I would like to share a comment made by my friend and Healing Touch Practitioner Vivian Drewis about last week’s post:  Healing: Befriending All Our Emotions.

“What a perceptive account of a session. Amazing awareness! I have worked with emotions for many years now doing my own personal work and assisting hundreds of others. I incorrectly thought that we simply release the emotions (actually created in our bodies in very particular organs and glands) once we can identify them and “own” them. What I now understand is that these frequencies do not just disappear. Energy can never be destroyed…as per Einstein. What actually happens is that the negatively charged frequencies are transmuted back to benign elements that we utilize again in our bodies. What a different view on it. It’s like welcoming your child back home.”

I have been thinking about Vivian’s comment all week. This quote describes exactly what I “feel” kinesthetically happening in my client’s energy field during my healing sessions. After they relax and stop resisting emotions such as anxiety and fear, there is almost always the sensation of more life-force energy, or a higher frequency of energy, in their biofield. I thought this was because the contracted, denser energy had released.  Maybe this higher vibrational energy is their emotions being  “transmuted back into benign elements.”

I find this incredibly exciting. It may not change my healing sessions in any way, but it just makes sense. I love it when things make sense. I also like the idea that when I can finally relax and create space around my emotions, it increases my life-force energy.

Thank you, Vivian!

Healing: Befriending All Our Emotions

I would like to share a beautifully written description of my client’s healing session. It is a wonderful account of how surrendering to anxiety and befriending our emotions is what essentially heals us.

“I mostly feel the energy shifts as gentle changes in the vibration in my body (I love to envision the atom models we used in chemistry class just shifting a little in their movement…).  Generally, it doesn’t get more intense until you get towards my upper body.  I think the moment you felt the biggest energy shift (was it on my left you said?) was actually when I felt the most relaxed, like I could almost fall asleep.  It feels almost as restful in those moments as if I had taken a long nap.  And there was still this gentle white light I could feel but not see.  I think I’ve said it before–but whenever you place your hands over my sternum, sort of the area where all of my anxiety and deep emotion live, it is this incredible feeling of being witnessed and not having to hold it all myself.  It’s occasionally a little terrifying, since that space seems to open more during sessions (as I imagine it should) and so much floats in and out, but it’s always a calming sense to be seen too.

One interesting thing that happened too that I wanted to tell you and thought I could say better in writing–I think when you switched to the right arm, I had this moment where I realized my breathing had become like I was about to cry. Almost immediately after that, I had the tightening sensation of anxiety in my chest.  I’ve never had anxiety rise during a session before.  I initially wanted to just push it away and tell it that it had no place there, and then I realized that wasn’t really the point.  So with some degree of struggle, I was able to sort of look at it and say something along the lines of  “hi, anxiety.  You’re a part of me, so it’s ok that you’re here…” and then I think I told it something along the lines of  “let’s go see a sunrise together sometime” (where that came from I have no idea, but I think I was trying to befriend it?)–and then my mind cleared completely and the amount of energy in my body changed and became so much higher and stayed that way until we finished.”

Back From The Retreat

One thing I have learned from this retreat: If I want to step deeper into my life and my work, I have to step out of it for a while.

I have been back from my retreat for five days. This was the most extended amount of time I have taken off from my healing practice in twenty-two years. I meditated for hours at a time, several times a day and I only looked at my phone when I absolutely had to. No Facebook, Instagram, emails, news, calls or texts. I am still amazed at how profoundly clear and relaxed I still feel.

Meditation was the focus of this retreat, with group meals and engaging conversations that created an intimate, supportive community. If you have read my blog, you know that I am a big fan of community, and I find it necessary for doing long-term spiritual and energetic work.

After sleeping for the first three days, I suddenly needed much less sleep. For two nights in a row, I only managed to sleep two hours each night and never felt tired the next day. That was wild. I had heard when you meditate for long periods of time you don’t need as much sleep, but I didn’t believe it until I experienced it. My overall energy level now is significantly higher than before the retreat. Since I am meditating daily for longer periods of time, I hope this continues.

My meditation teacher is  Supriya Whittemore, and she teaches The Ishayas Ascension. Supriya is a gift to this planet. Creating meditations retreats like this one is a  profound service to the world. This is from her website:

“We design our spiritual retreats from the intentions of our participants. What we do is provide the environment for you to recognize and nurture the experience of God within you. We implement a state shift that opens up for the next six months following the retreat. This is achieved by design, the community group dynamic, the practices, and listening for the Life that presents Itself when we discover and navigate together.”

“Listening for the Life that presents Itself”   I love that line.

Berkeley also has a fantastic time and experienced snow for the first time. He also got a lot of meditation time in. 🙂

Healing, Self-Tuning and the Ocarina, Part Two

I have learned that when I become obsessed with something that seems totally crazy and appears out of my current realm of practical application, not to question it. I now realize these compulsions are my higher guidance in high gear. I had no idea why ocarinas became such a passion for me a few years ago; I just knew I had to explore everything about them.

Then I met Alan Tower, Stonewhistle maker Hans Houkes, and discovered the Huaca and Innate. Below is a video of Hans and his breathtaking ceramic instruments:

The Huaca (wah-ka) was originally developed by ceramist Sharon Rowell in the 1980’s here in the Bay Area. Initially, she was trying to imitate the sound of the San Francisco Bay foghorns, and by the end of her instrument making career, she was building beautiful multiple-chambered ocarinas – or Huacas.

Alan Tower, one of the founders of The Resonance Center and a professional Huacaplayer, brought Hans in contact with Sharon Rowell’s Huacas and together Hans and Alan have developed the Innato or Innate. Below is my Innate that just arrived last Wednesday.

The word “Innato” means inborn, unlearned. It’s inside all of us. This instrument connects sonically to our pure innateness, and is playable by anyone with hands and ears. In just a few minutes it gives an experience that shifts or opens your perception of the moment.

– from Hans Houkes website

The Innate is where my higher guidance was leading me. When I play this sacred meditation object, I can feel the vibration all through my body, and then my body dissolves into the sensation. The world disappears. And then there is just the sound.
