Practitioner Virginia Samsel: Agricultural Reiki For Vineyards

Virginia Samsel In THe Vineyard

Reiki is not a modality used only for sessions in a healing room. Reiki is a way of interacting with the world.

Check out this extraordinary SFChronicle article about Reiki Practitioner Virginia Samsel, who takes her Reiki practice into the vineyards.

I am so inspired.

Virginia Samsel does Reiki outside, on the land. She feels with her hands the energy of the vineyards as she quietly walks through the grounds, much like a traditional Reiki practitioner uses their hands over a client in a more traditional on-the-table Reiki session.

“I’m checking to see how stuff feels and moves, the way things flow through the site,” Samsel says. “Using my hands, (I) can feel the rhythm of what’s happening, how fast it’s moving.”

Reiki enables her to perceive the energetic flow of the earth, sometimes emotionally, sometimes more visually.  She discovers the areas of stagnant energy and other places that are out of balance. She often draws a colorful energy map of the land’s energetic flow for the winemakers who hire her. Virginia also works on-site and also does distance sessions.

Her website is brief, yet fascinating. Virginia writes about Biodynamics,  developed by Rudolf Steiner. :

“Biodynamics is a form of holistic agriculture developed by Rudolf Steiner, an Austrian occultist, clairvoyant, philosopher and architect. Through a series of lectures in the 1920’s, Steiner presented a practice tied to lunar and astrological cycles, spiritual interaction, biodiversity, homeopathic composts and treatments, polycultural practice, and elemental inclusion.”

“An important aspect of Biodynamics is the connection and utilization of Cosmic energy. Many of the technical aspects of Biodynamics have prescriptions for specific timing or method of action, it is important on the part of the farmer to experience these actions physically, mentally,  emotionally, and spiritually. It is through these varied understandings that the work (system, vineyard, soil) fully develops it’s vital force. In modern era we have learned to live with these aspects separately. Through Reiki and other energetic practice we can reintroduce spiritual and emotional energies into our physical and mental pursuits.”

Thank you, for writing this article. Thank you Virginia Samsel for your remarkable work. This is another reminder of how Reiki is such a wonderful way of connecting with all aspects of life, the land, and the world.

Energy, Chaos And The Healing Urge To Connect

Right Outside My Door Last Week

Most often during a healing session my experience of energy is very dualistic: contraction/expansion, chaos/cohesiveness, swirling/still, lightness/heaviness.

I am not usually the type of healer that can see that in third grade you were thoroughly embarrassed in front of your homeroom class, and you still can’t speak in public without breaking a sweat. I am most often (every session is different) the type of healer who can sense the “thick energy” in your throat and hold a space for you to relax and let it release.

The energy right now in Oakland, California, is unusually chaotic with all the storms, flooding, and rain. I feel this chaos is allowing for faster and deeper transformation. Everything is already stirred up. While things feel ‘broken down,’ there is a powerful, positive, and healing urge to reconnect.

I actually recently ended a healing session after only 35 minutes because the person on the table was just “done.” He was very still on the table for about 45 minutes after I finished. He later told me it was a ‘breakthrough’ session for him.

Life, energy, and our capacity for healing are expanding and evolving faster than ever. These are interesting times.

The Podcast: Dive Into Reiki

One night last week, I woke up in the dark before my alarm sounded and could not fall back to sleep. So I did what I always do – I put my hands on my heart and began doing a self-Reiki treatment.

For me, there is an instant sensation of expansion, connection, and physical grounding. I completely relax and can be much more present with whatever is coming up, or not coming up, in the moment.

I haven’t written a post just about Reiki lately, even though it is a fundamental part of my daily practice. My first Reiki class was in 1996, and I have probably done it every day since. The simplicity of the practice is so exquisitely beautiful.

So, what I am leading up to is a link to a fascinating Reiki podcast on Youtube by Nathalie Jaspar. It is called Dive Into Reiki.

Nathalie has interviewed over thirty established Reiki Practitioners. Check out the inspiring, high-energy Raven Keyes, who brought Reiki into operating rooms. There is a wonderful interview with one of my teachers, Kathleen Prasad, who was the first to offer Reiki to animals. The link above with Susan Mitchell’s interview particularly touched me, and I had no idea who she was before I found this podcast.

Nathalie has also interviewed another of my heroes and teacher,  Frans Stiene, as well as Pamela MilesBronwen Logan, and Frank Arjava Petter.

Enjoy!

The Gift Of Regular Healing Sessions

A short series of healings can reset your nervous system, body, mind, and, therefore, your experience of life. Energetic sessions provide the space for you to relax and deeply rebalance, making it so much easier to connect with your inner guidance, creativity, and life direction.
I have clients that schedule sessions every week, every two weeks, and several that come once a month. Others book regular sessions for a fixed period of time to address a specific issue. They might be focusing on anxiety/panic attacks or want energetic support while going through a divorce. Several clients have found Healing Touch and Reiki sessions deepen their daily meditation practice.
Here are two testimonials from clients:

“I personally received several healings from Jeri for an undiagnosed condition. I was just out of energy, and at 67, I felt like I was nearing the natural end of my life. After a series of “distant healings from Jeri, I have the energy of when I was in my 40s. This took several months to unfold. I am beyond grateful for Jeri.”

“Jeri, You are the most gifted healer I’ve ever met and felt. Thank you for what seems like a lifetime of service. I am so grateful for that session today. I am pain-free and it makes me feel ready for Thursday’s surgery. Xoxo”

Healing Touch Certification: Is It Worth It?

Healing Touch Community in 2015

One of my Healing Touch friends recently asked me if I thought getting certified in Healing Touch was worth it. We have both been certified for many years. She is very sensitive to energy and knows she could have begun a hands-on-healing practice with just the first-level workshop.

In my experience, it is definitely worth it. I needed a thorough foundation to start offering energetic healing to people, especially since I had a business and was asking for money. I loved doing healing work, but did not trust it as I do now. My book, A Business Of Healing, describes my process of fully trusting the energy.

Becoming certified in Healing Touch Program is a huge commitment and usually takes at least two years. Just a few of the many requirements in the Program are: you have to meet regularly with a Healing Touch Mentor for at least a year, do a minimum of one hundred documented sessions, read a long list of books, write reports, receive healings from practitioners of other modalities and take all five levels of the workshops.

It was more work than Graduate School.

Another benefit to studying a modality like Healing Touch is that you learn the language. Language creates community, and the community has been an essential resource for me as a self-employed Healer.

All the techniques I learned in the Program are part of this language, a solid foundation to communicate with other practitioners. When discussing how to work with specific conditions, like Migraines or Anxiety, I can say, “I use a chakra connection rather than a mind-clearing if the first chakra is compromised because … ”

The Healing Touch community in the Bay Area is also incredibly knowledgeable. Many are nurses, doctors, shamans, hospital administrators, and healers of other modalities. I have called upon them many times to ask about chemo drugs, hospital procedures, or questions about specific conditions such as MRSA. I have seriously brilliant colleagues, all with different areas of expertise.

Also, I frequently refer other Healing Touch Practitioners. I have clients with Mothers going through Chemotherapy in Florida or friends undergoing surgery at UCLA. Even if I don’t know a practitioner personally, if that person is certified,  I know that they are committed to the healing work, grounded, and know the energy body. They have to if they made it through Certification. 🙂

You can check out Healing Touch Program and Healing Beyond Borders to learn about Healing Touch. These are two separate organizations. In the Bay Area, our two teachers are Laurie Ratto of the Healing Touch Program and Anne Secklinger of Healing Beyond Borders.

I ended the conversation with my Healing Touch friend by commenting, “We would not even know each other if we had not studied Healing Touch.”

“You reminded me over and over again how there was so much support around me, how held I was, how loved I was.  I could feel it.  My chest, my heart feel open.  It astounds me sometimes how deeply every piece of my being trusts you, but it is also the most beautiful thing.  For the first time in weeks, I am cautiously optimistic looking forward.”

Healing: Acknowledging Inner Guidance

When your nervous system relaxes, it is much easier to connect with your intuition and highest wisdom. During a Healing or Breathwork session, many people receive valuable guidance.

This guidance can range from ‘call your friend John tomorrow’ to a complete vision of your life purpose. I have witnessed these things happen for my clients and everything in between.

People tend to want the big vision. I include myself in this group. I certainly find big visions exciting and somewhat comforting.

Yet, calling John could be the key to a massive life shift, and that conversation may reveal your next step. Yet, as incredibly valuable as this kind of inner guidance is,  I find people dismiss it and end up not calling John.

Are you acknowledging and following your inner guidance? How does guidance sound/feel/look to you? Is there resistance to calling John? Why? What meditative practices reconnect you to yourself?

Taking the time to rest, center, and balance our energy makes it so much easier to open to simple next-step possibilities. In these times, creating space to reconnect to our deepest internal guidance is a radical act. An act that can bring deep peace.

I would love to hold the space for you to access this peace.

We’re Wired to Heal Each Other

This talk was ‘flagged’ by TED, stating that Dr. Jain is speaking about her “personal research approach.” TED also warned her not to use words like Reiki or Chi.

Wow. Words are so powerful.

Healing energy is a natural inherent human ability that we can all access. Talks like this are crucial in expanding our consciousness and increasing the quality of our life.

Click here to check out a list of scientific references Dr. Jain provided to support her talk on the Consciousness and Healing Initiative (CHI) website. This list includes 29 peer-reviewed, published scientific references.

I could write twenty posts on the inspiring ideas presented in this video. I am so excited to share it with you.

Thank you, Dr. Shamini Jain.

Clarity Breathwork: A Daily and Divine Self-Care Practice

“Clarity Breathwork has changed my spiritual practice and life into a calmer, more relaxed and expansive feeling. Since being introduced to it, I have used it daily as part of my meditation and self-care practice. The sense of peacefulness and bliss that flows through me when I am finished is divine.  I highly recommend Clarity Breathwork for everyone. ”

  • Breathwork is a powerful process of healing and transformation; It has been a foundational part of my own self-care for many years. I breathe with my breathworker at least once a month and on my own whenever I feel disconnected or off-balance. This practice keeps me connected to spirit and the greater consciousness.  It is profound. It is Divine.

White Frosted Crystal Singing Bowls

For the last nine months or so, I have been playing crystal singing bowls during my morning meditation. The classic white frosted singing bowls. These bowls have been instrumental in helping me stay grounded, especially between clients and before healing sessions.

I have also been watching all the youtube videos I can find, reading sound healing blogs, and learning everything I can about vibration, sound, and healing.

After extensive research on sound healers, I found a workshop with someone who appeared to resonate as I do with the old-school frosted white bowls. I took Melissa Felsenstein’s Level One Online Sound Healing training last weekend. You can check out her website here: https://www.innersoundsmeditation.com/melissa-felsenstein

I am SO glad I took this workshop. It was amazing. I loved every minute. We learned about the science of sound, deep listening,  sequencing for the nervous system, and the anatomy of a sound bath. I love Melissa’s practical, playful and intuitive approach. Her partner Jason Hee did the technical support, and the sound was excellent.

I have been so inspired, and my personal use of the bowls has deepened, as well as my ability to stay grounded. In this crazy world now, staying grounded is a huge deal.

I am so busy with my healing business, so I don’t see myself running out to do sound baths. That said, playing the bowls has shifted my healing space; I sense so much more in my client sessions. I have been ‘feeling’ sounds in my client’s body for a long time now, and many healings feel like my client is tuning (coming into harmony) underneath my hands. I am becoming aware of this even more during my healings after the workshop – it’s like something new has opened up. It is crazy. Wonderfully crazy.

Thank you, Milissa and Jason!
