Healing, Breathwork and True Compassion

Compassion is a word that many healers whom I greatly respect use to describe the state of consciousness they experience in their sessions.

I found this confusing for years. I kept trying to redefine compassion starting with the basics:

A Traditional Definition of Compassion From the Internet:

a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.”

This did not make any sense at all. I have never felt sorrow for my clients, much less think of them as stricken by misfortune. My strong desire to assist their healing process was also shifting and I could not comprehend, much less verbalize, what was happening.

Then I went through a divorce. During this process, I did many breath sessions. I have no idea how I would have made it through that time in my life without Breathwork, yet not every breathe left me feeling better about my life or my situation. Sometimes I would breathe right into the most painful feelings of grief, loss, failure, and shame. There were several sessions in which I felt emotionally overwhelmed – or trashed – after my breathe.

My breathwork practitioner held the most amazing and beautiful space for me during that time. I never once felt that my lack of “getting better” made her feel inadequate as a breathwork practitioner. Her ego was not invested in my healing. I never felt she thought less of me because I was such a mess. I could just focus and surrender to my process, as ugly as it appeared to me at the time.

All I felt from her was support, nonjudgement, and complete compassion. THAT FEELING OF TOTAL COMPASSION WAS SO HEALING. I will never forget what that was like; just being in that compassionate, nonjudgemental space was incredibly validating and grounding. I am tearing up as I write this. She showed me what true compassion really is.

My definition of compassion is unconditional love without an agenda, the ability to hold the abused and the abuser, the light and the dark, the “good” feelings and the “bad.” Compassion is the ability to hold everything in the moment, in the divine presence of All That Is. It is an energetic healing state.

Over the years, the less desire I have to “alleviate suffering” and be present with what is in the moment, the more effective my healing sessions have become for my clients.

A New Energetic State Of Being

I recently received this quote from a woman after her third healing:

 …
“Good morning Jeri, I wanted to tell you that since my third session with you I  immediately felt back to my new energetic state of being that I experienced after our 1st session, so thank you again for your caring and knowing. I haven’t felt this good in a very long time in mind, body, and spirit.”

Transmuting Energy and Healing Anxiety

I would like to share a comment made by my friend and Healing Touch Practitioner Vivian Drewis about last week’s post:  Healing: Befriending All Our Emotions.

“What a perceptive account of a session. Amazing awareness! I have worked with emotions for many years now doing my own personal work and assisting hundreds of others. I incorrectly thought that we simply release the emotions (actually created in our bodies in very particular organs and glands) once we can identify them and “own” them. What I now understand is that these frequencies do not just disappear. Energy can never be destroyed…as per Einstein. What actually happens is that the negatively charged frequencies are transmuted back to benign elements that we utilize again in our bodies. What a different view on it. It’s like welcoming your child back home.”

I have been thinking about Vivian’s comment all week. This quote describes exactly what I “feel” kinesthetically happening in my client’s energy field during my healing sessions. After they relax and stop resisting emotions such as anxiety and fear, there is almost always the sensation of more life-force energy, or a higher frequency of energy, in their biofield. I thought this was because the contracted, denser energy had released.  Maybe this higher vibrational energy is their emotions being  “transmuted back into benign elements.”

I find this incredibly exciting. It may not change my healing sessions in any way, but it just makes sense. I love it when things make sense. I also like the idea that when I can finally relax and create space around my emotions, it increases my life-force energy.

Thank you, Vivian!

Healing, Self-Tuning and the Ocarina, Part One

Sometimes in a healing session, I become aware of my client’s energy field as a collection of frequencies that are subtly harmonizing. Every time I change my hand position, I sense a different tone. It’s like I am feeling sound. My clients are tuning themselves in the sacred space.

Outside of my healing room, I have become fascinated with the medicinal effects of sound on my energy field and the ocarina. I’ve been playing the ocarina as a meditation, exploring how specific tones affect me.

After sitting and silently meditating, I often just play one long, slow note on an ocarina that sounds good to me. I then relax into the stillness afterward. I notice if I feel anything different in my physical body, if I feel differently emotionally, or if the space around me has shifted. It has been an incredible practice.

Because the ocarina is a wind instrument, my breath becomes a connection between the inside of my body and the outside. Playing the ocarina has helped me become more sensitive to energy in my healing practice. It also feels so good. It’s so soothing and grounding.

My obsession with the ocarina started at the end of 2014. Before that, I had never even heard of an ocarina. I started watching every ocarina YouTube video, researching all the ocarina maker’s websites and buying them online. I returned quite a few. I can’t tell you how many times I wished there was an ocarina store in the Bay area.

This ocarina, the Seedpod Ocarina Tenor G was the first ocarina I found that made my body resonate with the first breath. It is so easy to play. If you are not a musician and are interested in meditating with a wind instrument, this is the ocarina I recommend. Of course, you can also use a native American flute. The Seedpod Tenor G cost under $50.00. You can get it through Songbird Ocarina in Los Angeles, a fantastic company.

The next ocarina I fell in love with was also from Songbird Ocarina: The Seedpod Ocarina Bass C. Of all the ocarinas I have, this is the one I play the most often. For me, bass tones create even more healing vibration in my body.

I am a full-time healer, and I am in an altered or healing state about fifteen to twenty hours a week. The only way I can maintain my healing practice at this rate is to stay grounded. My daily meditation and ocarina playing have been the most efficient way for me to do this.

The best thing about self-tuning with the ocarina is that it feels amazing. Try it.

We are living in interesting times. Staying centered and grounded is practically a political act.

Set your intention now to stay balanced in 2018 by learning how to give yourself Reiki treatments.

On January 13th and 14th, I will be offering a Reiki workshop in the beautiful Besler building in Emeryville, California. This workshop is the foundation for energetic self-care and personal development. You will learn the fundamentals of energy work for treating friends and family, and there will be plenty of time to practice healing on each other. We will practice many of the same Japanese techniques that were taught by Mikao Usui, and there will be a focus on deepening your meditation practice. Four Reiki I attunements, a manual, certificate and three weeks of follow-up emails will be given.

Over the last twenty years, I have taught many clients with life-threatening health opportunities how to give themselves Reiki treatments. I have witnessed the incredible energetic access this gave them to heal and nurture themselves. These clients have inspired me to teach this workshop.

Healing: The Space To Let Go

Are you afraid that if you start getting in touch with all the emotions you have in this moment, you might fall apart? That it would hurt too much? That if you became fully aware of your feelings you might never stop crying?

Last week was a rough one for California. Many of us are still spinning. Even if we were lucky enough to not have someone close to us in the direct path of the wildfires, the smoke in the air was a constant, tangible reminder of the tragedy that was raging out of control so close by.

Holding all those emotions back is exhausting. It takes so much energy to keep grief sorrow, anger, and fear inside. Once you give yourself the space and the time to let go of whatever you might need to release at this time, you will feel less fatigued and more capable of coping.

A Healing or Breathwork session is the perfect place to get the support you need to clear any emotions that are blocking your physical body, your life, your healing, and your experience of being fully present for all that is in this moment.

Give yourself the space to let go.

Healing In These Times: We Are All Connected

I could not sleep last Sunday night.

When I heard the Monday morning news, I learned another “psychic storm” had occurred, this time in Las Vegas. I realized why I had felt so restless and irritated the night before. Many people can feel events in the collective unconscious, can sense the pain of others on the opposite side of the world when a large scale tragedy occurs. I didn’t think I had this “gift,” but I think many of us are now more aware of how energetically connected we are than any other time in our lives.

Many of my clients, friends and healing practitioners report that they are waking up in the morning filled with dread, grief, anxiety, hopelessness, and fear. Then they tell me they listen to the morning news and just feel worse.

How can we survive the violence, the loss, the craziness of these times? How can we stay present, grounded and centered? How do we as teachers go to school each day and face our students? How do we as mothers get out of bed and take care of our children? How do we stay present in times like this?

One thing about the collective unconscious is that it is a collective. We are all connected. You are not alone. The emotions in your energy field at any given time are being felt all over the country, all over the world. When you hold, balance and ground the energy in your own body, and your life, you are healing the collective. You are making a difference. Our personal healing heals the world.

This is the time for radical self-care. Turn off the news if you need to. Turn on and monitor the current events each day,  if that helps you feel safer. Talk to your friends, go for a walk in the woods, meditate, or get a healing to balance your chakras. This is a blog about energetic healing, so I of course highly recommend booking a Reiki, Healing Touch or a Breathwork session. My clients are greatly benefiting from their sessions.

Check out Kathleen Prasad’s simple animal healing meditation written for those affected by war. Do this meditation for people lost in or traumatized by war, people who have been affected by a violent shooting, or for those who don’t have healthcare. Do this meditation for yourself and all those who are suffering from the same issues and emotions you are in this moment.

“May the peace which we create today in our hearts radiate out and help to heal the world.”

– Kathleen Prasad

Remember: You are not alone. We are all connected. Your personal healing affects the whole planet.

Community: We Are All Connected

I mentor other practitioners in healing my community.

I am also mentored by this same community.

Over the last few years, I have been supporting (coaching, mentoring, talking extensively on the phone) with other healing practitioners from all over the country who are dealing with challenging issues and questions concerning their healing practice. Often these healers have questions about working with clients and friends going through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I have also helped many practitioners launch their healing business, sharing what marketing and organizing strategies have been working for me.

When I have questions about medical procedures my clients are going through, there are several nurses and a few doctors I have called from this same community who have walked me through the possibilities my client may be facing. This has been extremely helpful for me over the years. I have yoga teachers, hospital and oncology administrators, healers who are exceptionally sensitive to energy and just some very wise and experienced practitioners who I can call and ask anything I need to know or process. As I am writing this, I realize the hospital administrators I know have been a tremendous resource.

I am so supported by my healing community.

Below is an email I recently received from another energy practitioner who had emailed me with questions about her client with neuropathy (numbness in the hands and feet):

“I wanted to give you an update on the client with Neuropathy, since you were so helpful in telling me what has worked for you.

On his first visit, I did lots of clearing, as you recommended. I don’t usually do much clearing, so I made a point to do more.  I also did LOTS of just holding his feet and hands – bringing warmth and healing through intention.

He called a few days later and said that he could feel his feet on the ground for the first time in a few years. He still had some pain, but was excited to have a difference and be able to “feel” with his feet.  He had felt the heat of the sun on his feet.

He also had no headaches and no blurry vision (which he had complained about before). His hands, however, did not have any difference from the first session. They are extremely painful, and he wears wool gloves to warm and protect them.

I worked on him again yesterday, and haven’t heard if there is any change. I did lots of clearing on his hands and arms and entire body, so — I’ll keep you updated.”

We are all connected. We are all healing together.
